After years of speculation, beloved Australian band Powderfinger have confirmed that next year, 17 years after they last exited the live arena, the iconic act will reform for a major national run of tour dates, landing in Brisbane, Cairns, Perth, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne, across September and October 2027.
“We are absolutely ecstatic to be coming together to play again,” said Powderfinger. “Over the years there have been tons of suggestions for us to go back on the road but, until now, it never felt quite right or lined up for all of us.”
“We have always been so grateful for the continued support from our long-term fans and over the years we’ve picked up a lot of new ones who have never seen us play. So, it feels right to bring all of these people (including our kids who were too young to see us play) together for a special run of shows around the country next year.”
“People often tell us that our music is connected to their most treasured and joyous memories. We hope to spread a little more of that joy when we make our way around the country with some of Australia’s best established and upcoming talent, and to make some new memories for us all.”
Bernard Fanning, Darren Middleton, Ian Haug, Jon Coghill and John ‘JC’ Collins – together as Powderfinger – created seven studio albums and a catalogue of music that has become ingrained in Australian cultural lore. Anthems such as “My Happiness”, “These Days”, “Sunsets”, “On My Mind”, “Burn Your Name” and “Pick You Up” have soundtracked our core memories for decades and transcend generations.
The band’s countless accolades include five x ARIA #1 albums, 18 ARIA Awards and three APRA Awards including two for Song of the Year. They’ve had an incredible 22 singles in triple j’s annual Hottest 100 including two in the #1 spot with “My Happiness” and “These Days”. And in 2025, triple j’s Hottest 100 Of Australian Songs Of All Time included three Powderfinger tracks, a reflection of the continued love for their music from their original fans and from those just discovering them.
Known for their formidable live shows, Powderfinger played countless sold-out tours across Australia and abroad as well as all the major Australian festivals of the day. In April 2010, after 20 years together, they announced they were calling it a day and embarked on the mammoth Sunsets Farewell Tour, playing to over 300 000 people along the way. Then on 13 November 2010 they played their final show…. until now!
Powderfinger will hit the road in an epic stadium-sized big top, with a range of ticket options (standing and seating), a carefully curated food and drinks lineup and that special atmosphere that only a travelling rock n roll circus can bring – here today, gone tomorrow. It’s part festival, part spectacle and set to be filled with the communal joy of thousands of fans, gathering offline to experience the music they love, together.
The big top will touch down in convenient, central city locations across the country. See Powderfinger in Brisbane at the Brisbane Showgrounds, in Cairns’ at Cazalys Stadium, at Perth’s Wellington Square, in Sydney at The Domain, at Adelaide’s Ellis Park and at Melbourne Park Oval.
Powderfinger will curate an all-Australian lineup of support acts, with different artists joining the bill across the tour. They’re excited to share their stage with the wealth of emerging and established homegrown talent out there. When you book an Australian support act, you’re also backing the teams behind them – the crews, management teams and creatives who make up Australia’s music industry – which is a huge focus for the band. Stay tuned for a very special support announcement in AusMusic Month, November!
The tour will partner with Mission Australia, an organisation doing extraordinary work for the most vulnerable in our communities. Homelessness is complex and rarely a solo issue, often the by-product of family violence, mental health and financial hardship. It’s a cause close to the band’s heart and throughout this tour, they will raise funds and awareness for Mission Australian and for those who need their support. More details on this partnership and how fans can get involved, will be released down the track.
