Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) today unveils the Limited Edition Mark Hoppus Stoned Fruit Jaguar® Bass, recreating one of Mark Hoppus’ most distinctive onstage instruments to players and fans for the first time. Available to order for just 182 hours exclusively on Fender.com, the limited-edition model recreates the Guava Green Jaguar Bass currently played by Hoppus with blink-182, pairing his signature player-driven specs with the unmistakable “Stoned Fruit” artwork created by Ohio-based artist Phil Guy, known professionally as Burrito Breath. The decals arrive separately, inviting players to put their own spin on the instrument and make each bass their own.
As a founding member and the co-lead vocalist of blink-182, Mark Hoppus has cemented his place as one of pop-punk’s most recognisable and influential bassists. Since their formation in the 90s, blink-182’s sound spearheaded the rising meld of pop, rock and punk, drawing inspiration from the Southern California skateboarding scene and the punk acts of the 80s. Hoppus’ driving, melodic bass lines and punchy tone have been central to the band’s fast, hook-heavy sound, while his loud energy and vibrant aesthetic have become equally synonymous with blink-182’s identity. The Limited Edition Mark Hoppus Stoned Fruit Jaguar Bass channels that same irreverent spirit, combining the distinctive sound, playing style and visual personality that have defined Hoppus from the band’s earliest skate-punk days to arenas around the world today.
Hoppus’ original “Stoned Fruit” Jaguar bass first appeared onstage during blink-182’s 2023 world tour. After becoming a fan of Burrito Breath’s work, Hoppus personally commissioned the artist to create the psychedelic fruit illustrations that were individually placed across his Guava Green Jaguar Bass. Fender worked in close collaboration with Hoppus to give fans the opportunity to own his instrument of choice, a bass that perfectly encapsulates the weird and wonderful side of the band’s aesthetic – bold, fun, and impossible to ignore.
“To now have my own signature model done exactly the way that I like is super awesome. This is the culmination of my nearly quarter century relationship with Fender,” said Mark Hoppus. “Coming out of skateboarding and punk rock, stickers are such a huge part of everything that we do. You can take this bass, you can sticker it up, you can pretend you’re a little kid in the back of your parent’s car putting stickers on the window as they drive down the freeway. This bass plays incredibly well and you’ll look cool as shit.”
Built around Hoppus’ distinctive playing style, the Stoned Fruit Jaguar combines the stripped-back functionality he favors with the powerful, punchy tone at the center of his sound. Its reverse-mounted Seymour Duncan® SPB-3 Quarter Pound™ split-coil P Bass® pickups deliver the focused attack associated with Hoppus’ signature basses, while a Custom “C” maple neck, HiMass™ Vintage bridge and lightweight vintage-style tuners balance playability, stability and performance. A Custom Mark Hoppus neck plate featuring his “Hi, My Name is Mark” octopus logo adds another personal detail.
Fender and Hoppus’ relationship stretches back more than two decades, beginning with the Mark Hoppus Signature Jazz Bass® in 2002. A unique instrument which played with the elements and electronics of the traditional Jazz Bass, the hybrid of a Jazz and Precision Bass offered the best of both worlds and remains a much-coveted instrument for long-time fans of the pop-punk titans. His signature instruments have continued to evolve alongside him, including the Limited Edition Mark Hoppus Jaguar® Bass, which quickly sold out upon its initial release. The Stoned Fruit Jaguar marks the latest chapter in that relationship — and the first time Fender has recreated Hoppus’ Stoned Fruit stage bass for players and fans. The new instrument will be available to order exclusively on Fender.com for just 182 hours.
“Mark has always had a very clear point of view about what he wants from an instrument — both in how it performs and how it looks,” said Justin Norvell, Fender Chief Product Officer, Guitars and Basses. “The Stoned Fruit bass captures that perfectly. It’s unmistakably Mark: simple, powerful, personal and a little unexpected. We wanted to recreate the instrument he actually plays while giving fans the opportunity to put their own stamp on it.”
