In 25 words or less: With summer on the horizon and a sun drenched film clip to match, While We’re Young just screams summer anthem.
By no means a stranger to the Australian Country Music scene, Newcastle born and bred Morgan Evans looks set to finally capitalise on his musical journey over the past five years, with new EP While We’re Young, his first on Warner Music Australia. Led by the modern guitar driven country rock of the title track, the comparisons to another Aussie in Keith Urban will be inevitable, but put simply, if you dig Keith Urban and if you haven’t yet discovered Morgan Evans, wait no longer. While We’re Young the song, was co-written with Sarah Buxton who also co-wrote a couple of Urban’s recent – Put You In A Song and Stupid Boy. With summer on the horizon and a sun drenched film clip to match, While We’re Young just screams summer anthem and could easily by lifted off a Keith Urban album. Sweet Home To You eases the tempo back a gear, but is no less addictive with a breezy groove. Made For Loving You offers a grittier and blusier rock edge and you could refer as the EP’s least immediate track. I was certainly anticipating a couple of ballad’esque numbers on the EP and we get it with Learn To Lose You and Carry On. Both offer Evans a chance to shine vocally, – equal parts warmth, soothing and soulful. Still only 26 years of age, you can expect to hear a lot more of Morgan Evans on the horizon. If you get the chance to see him perform here in Australia, I recommend make the most of it, as it’s surely only a matter of time before the USA beckons on a more permanent basis.
