by

THE FLAMING LIPS AND HEADY FWENDS

THE LIPS’ COLLABORATIONS WITH NICK CAVE, BON IVER, YOKO ONO, TAME IMPALA KE$HA AND OTHERS IS AVAILABLE JULY 6, 2012.

NEW STUDIO ALBUM DUE LATER THIS YEAR

The Flaming Lips’ The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends sold out instantly at retail outlets internationally when it was released on vinyl in honour of Record Store Day this past April. Due to overwhelming demand, Warner Music Australia will make the album available on physical CD and digitally on July 6, 2012.

It’s no surprise that The Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends was among the top 3 best-selling albums on Record Store Day in the USA, due to its collaborative nature with an unexpected array of special guests, it’s aesthetic beauty pressed into vibrant psychedelic rainbows of colour (no two pressings alike) and the simple fact that The Flaming Lips deliver something special with each new release.

To up the ante, The Lips pressed a limited run of vinyl that included samples of some of the Heady Fwends actual blood inside the pressing.   Ten copies of the blood vinyl sold for $2,500 each via The Lips website with proceeds going to charity.

The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends just may be their most adventurous recorded experience to date. The album contains the band’s unique and experimental collaborations with a diverse cross-section of heavy friends from every corner of the musical cosmos, including vocal and musical assistance from such disparate playmates as Yoko Ono, Nick Cave, Bon Iver, Ke$ha and many more. A new track recorded with Aaron Behrens of Ghostland Observatory is exclusive to the CD and digital versions and was not included on the vinyl edition.

For those who require yet more Lips action, we’re pleased to report that this fall, The Lips’ along with multiple Tony Award-winning director Des McAnuff will premiere their musical production of  Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, CA  for the theatre’s 2012 / 2013 season. More on that later but for or now, go here for further info.

It’s going to be an extra exiting time for The Flaming Lips in the months ahead.  We can tell you that The Lips are putting the finishing touches on their next full-length studio album due later this year. Tour dates will follow. Stay tuned.
