ME to play Big Day Out 2013

by

We love it when our ‘Best Thing You’ve Never Heard’ artists start to take off and here we have Melbourne band ME, who have been making something of a splash in the UK this year, have confirmed their appearance at Australia’s Big Day Out 2013. The festival which takes place in Sydney, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth on 18th, 20th, 25th, 26th and 28th January 2013 respectively plays host to headlining appearances by Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Killers. Tickets are on sale now at $165 and $265 via www.bigdayout.com

Since waving goodbye to Melbourne in June 2011, ME (Luke Ferris – voice, guitar, piano, Damian Tapley – lead guitar, Michael Godde – bass and Spike Rogers – drums) have played over 100 shows in Europe (including London’s 1400 capacity Koko venue four times), supporting the likes of Kasabian and Death From Above 1979 and completing multiple tours of the UK with Evanescence, Twin Atlantic, King Charles, Canterbury and Panic! At The Disco, the last of which saw them play to 30,000 in ten days.

ME are picking up an impressive flow of UK press, the band receiving tips in The Fly, Rhythm, Total Guitar, ASOS magazine and Music Week (whose new band showcase they headlined at Camden’s Proud Galleries). Kerrang! ran a recent full page interview with the band calling them “essentially Queen if every single member was Freddie Mercury” and the NME stated that “ME make massive, stadium-ready pomp rock.”

There was further full page praise from influential US style magazine Nylon in their ‘Best New Bands in the World’ feature and the UK’s most respected newspaper The Guardian who concluded: “Damian Tapley makes like Brian May wrestling with Johnny Greenwood. On Insert Voice Here, Ferris’s voice is almost gratuitous in its capricious darts up and down the octave range. Lady Gaga will love them.”

Radio play is following suit with Fearne Cotton on Radio 1 giving the band their first UK airplay and describing them as “like the lovechild of The Killers and Led Zeppelin.” XFM, the UK’s most influential alternative music station, are also behind the band, as is leading rock station Kerrang Radio.

ME have been recording with renowned producer Simon ‘Barny’ Barnicott and Grammy winning engineer Ian Dowling. The results of these sessions will see the light of day in the form of six track mini album. The much anticipated debut album proper is due for release in January 2013, when the band celebrate their homecoming at Big Day Out 2013.
