Let me start by saying that I’m a big fan of the Modern Rock / Metal genre. I say modern but by that I mean the majority of bands out there these days making music that have that heavy, dirty, crunchy yet still melodic style of Rock / Metal. So when a ballsy rocker of a new album comes out I’m stoked. This is what I’m loving now with ‘Forgive And Forget’ the debut album from Drug Under.
Opener ‘Never Again’ kicked my ass three times over and then came back for another pass, which is a perfect way to set up what I’m hoping is going to a great rock album. Title track ‘Forgive And Forget’ gives us a bitchin’ guitar solo which makes me happy to know they still exist. Although the next two are my favourites ‘Change My Ways’ which is as close to a power ballad as you get these days, not so much in the traditional sense though, but just to stay on that, why are bands scared of writing power ballads these days? Some still do it, you know who you are and I thank you for that. So I also thank Drug Under for this song. Love it. Then we get ‘I Need To See’ which has more hooks than the local bait and tackle shop, great chorus and groove that made me actually put that one on again when it finished. It’ll be hard to top these two but let’s see what we have left to go.
‘All The Lies’ has a great lyrical content and amazing breakdown solo / musical middle 8 that I loved, and the riffs just keep coming, through ‘Borrowed Time’ and then ‘Echoes’ which kicks ass. It’s funny my mate always says that track 8 on an album is the best one and he’s actually not far off with this one. It’s a perfect song to wind down the record and oh it just won everything, it faded out. No songs fade out anymore, and even better it faded into the final track, aptly titled ‘It’s Over’ well it isn’t yet, the song is still on, but this is a great way to finish up the album as it takes tempo turns and takes at times an almost for lack of a better word, psychedelic feel and it’s a great blend as I’m getting in to the groove. Oh so now it’s over, bummer.
So I really enjoyed this album, it’s just a great rock album of catchy songs with great melodies and with some great riffs, I’d love to see these songs performed live, I think the bands energy would be electric on stage, so here’s to hearing more from these guys in the future.
