I haven’t seen Anthrax since 2013 so I’m excited to see them in their element and I think a lot of others are excited too as the Enmore is full! Love that.

Alien Weaponry from NZ are here to open the show. Starting things off with a Hakka they are here and they mean business. As they start their first song and the circle pit immediately opens and this is going to be nuts. This is one heavy band, for a three piece they are holding it down and between the circle pits, the walls of death, you can see these guys were definitely a draw card tonight. Excellent choice for the support and I look forward to seeing them again when they make it back over.

As some Maiden bares through the venue everyone in this very very packed Enmore theatre is ready for the return of Anthrax to a Sydney stage. As the clock ticks down and an amazing animated video plays the band kick in behind the sheet hanging from the rafters as it drops and they take us into ‘A.I.R’ and this band is on fire. What a way to open the show! Up next they hit us with a big one with ‘Got The Time’ and I do… it’s 9:23pm. This is awesome. The floor is intense and watching crowd surfer after crowd surfer get taken over the top is awesome and it’s only song two! The reaction for that one was insane. Addressing the crowd Joey checks in as Scott drives in ‘Madhouse’ and it sure is as this crowd is lapping it up tonight and the band are so into it it’s ridiculous. A circle pit opens for the aptly titled ‘Caught in a Mosh’ which let Charlie shine. Damn that was sweet. Scott gets on the mic to say hi and ask us about our love of thrash metal and with a resounding cheer meaning yes they dive into ‘Metal Thrashing Mad’ and they just keep delivering. These songs are fast paced, intense, and perfect. They get even heavier with ‘Fight ‘Em ‘Til You Can’t’ and this is one of my favourite Anthrax tunes and they killed it!! What a song. The intensity here tonight coming off the floor is that of a thrash starved audience and they are lapping it up!!

Up next ‘Breathing Lightning’ has everyone getting their “Whoh ohs” on and Joey’s range was huge on this as were Frank’s harmonies. Damn. ‘In the End’ gets the horns held high and this is chunky!! This might actually be my favourite of the night so far. The stop mid song before it explodes again was sensational. Telling us a new record is coming this year, and giving us a taste of something from it with a brand new one albeit about 30 seconds of it and the promise we’ll hear the rest of it in a few months. They keep things very heavy with ‘Be All, End All’ and you can’t go wrong with late 80’s Anthrax. The crowd is screaming it back to the stage with the same intensity they started with an hour ago and they are loving it. Taking it even further back in the 80’s to 1985 with ‘Medusa’ and that was killer, they haven’t dropped a note tonight this band is a machine. ‘Indians’ gets a war dance going and the circle pit moving once again. As it fades out Scott signals the circle to open again and it sure does as the band smash it out and leave the stage for a quick little break.

Then as they return and a big thank you from the band they finally kick into  ‘I Am The Law’ and you can see that everyone has been waiting for this one. That was awesome. Leaving us with one more and it’s ‘Antisocial’ which starts off almost balladesque but that lasts not long at all as it kicks into gear and the crowd kept the intensity up until the end.

After doing this for so long, Anthrax are still a band at the top of their game and they absolutely smashed it tonight. What a band, and I can’t wait to hear what’s next. As long as they continue to bring the noise… I think everyone in this room tonight will be happy.
