Taylor Acorn is back in Australia on this headline run off the back of her new album ‘Poster Child’ and I am quite ready for this. This’ll be Taylor’s third trip to see us, and the third time I’ve seen her so it’s great to see her grow, and with each time she’s gotten better so I’m pumped for tonight.
I made it in time to see Arrows In Action take to the stage to a cheer and with some finger clicks they launch into ‘Empty Canvas’ and this is a fun vibe. Into one that a lot of people here seem to know and are happily bopping along to which is great to see ‘Light Like You’ was a catchy little ditty. The slower ‘Put You Through Me’ keeps things moving along nicely. Then they get hands waving for ‘High’ and after a fun interlude of what to do next from drummer Jesse they take us into ‘Head in the Clouds’ with a stomp and a clap. Throwing in a new one called ‘Stop Talking’ and these songs are just damn good fun. The phone lights come up for ‘Uncomfortably Numb’ and then heading back a few years for ‘All the Ways I Could Die’ and that was great. These guys are the perfect opener for tonight and I’m sure they’ve gotten a lot of new fans from this tour. With a couple to go we get ‘Over It’ and there are a lot here that seem to know this one, that’s awesome. Closing with ‘Cheekbones’ that’s a band I’ll definitely check out again. It’s their first time here but definitely will not be their last.
It’s time for our main act for the evening, and launching into the title track from her latest album ‘Poster Child’ Taylor Acorn is in fine form and this is the perfect choice to kick things off. Into the one I was waiting for, ‘People Pleaser’ and she nailed it and hearing everyone sing along it so awesome and getting the claps in was a moment. That’s such a good song. She is sounding amazing tonight, and we get ‘I Think I’m in Love’ and wow that was large and that rock ending was outstanding, props to Ricky and Ethan on this one. Saying hi to us you can just see and hear how appreciative she is and it’s heartwarming as she takes us into ‘Coma’ and this powerful song gets its perfect live treatment as she belts it out. Watching her band truly give this song its dues and guitarist Ricky throwing himself around the stage is a treat to watch. Oh yes time for my favourite from her new album with ‘Blood on Your Hands’ and hearing this live took the song to another level. Staying on the new album with ‘Cheap Dopamine’ and slows things down a little which after the intense beginning is needed. Drummer Ethan smashes things for a bit before ‘Goodbye, Good Riddance’ and this is most definitely a fave of the night. That’s is a huge crowd favourite and will most definitely never leave her set. That was impressive
Taylor puts on an acoustic for ‘Home Videos’ and this one is such a great tune and a perfectly written story song. Then we rock things back up with ‘Crashing Out’ and she keeps giving it her all, she is seriously impressive. She’s such a talent and those kicks, deadly. Now she’s rocking out with an electric on for ‘Hangman’ and it sounds amazing. These new songs are made for a live setting it’s so perfect how well they fit in. ‘Greener’ is easily my favourite track of Taylor’s and it’s up next. This is so good and made even better as she’s joined by Victor from Arrows in Action for it and that was a really awesome take on the song with those dual vocals. Slowing it was down again for ‘Birds Still Sing’ and it’s a truly well written song and one with a perfect message. “Birds still sing on bad days…” truth. Before rocking it out to close this one and then with a thank you so much she takes a quick break before coming back with a promise of two more songs, the first being ‘Shapeshifting’ which deserves its spot this far into the set then ‘Psycho’ was the perfect closer and kind of the only one it could be. It’s the happiest, craziest song in her catalogue and you cannot help but love this one.
A very appreciate Taylor Acorn just powered through that set, even with being not 100% she gave it her everything and you never would’ve known for a second she was under the weather. If you want a nice set of catchy tunes, excellent vibes, and just a good time… go and see Taylor Acorn. We need more artists like her out doing this but I for one can’t wait for her fourth trip down here already. She deserves all the love she got tonight.
