Yächtley Crëw – The Metro Theatre, Sydney – May 17, 2025

by

All aboard. Tonight is going to be fun, no doubts about that. Yächtley Crëw are in Australia for the first time and by the sight of this huge crowd it seems a LOT of people are ready to enjoy a night of these amazing songs. So let’s see what we get tonight.

Immediately into what I thought would be the closer ha ha it’s the Christopher Cross classic ’Ride Like The Wind’ and the sway happening in the crowd right now is magical. This is perfect. The band is tight and delivering it perfectly. Not a second wasted and into ‘Magic’ and I know I’ll get to hear some songs live tonight I never thought I would and this is one of them. They have this down, three songs in with ‘Break My Stride’ and everyone is having a ball. ‘Steal Away’ keeps things smooth and they barely hold for applause before each track and it’s seamless. ‘Heart to Heart’ gives us some classic Kenny Loggins and that sax is perfection. Now we’re ’Dancing in The Moonlight’ and this is great, I guess the vibe really takes this to the next level. Then a huge cheer as our first Toto song of the night begins, ‘Hold the Line’ is such a great song and hearing the love for it is testament to a great song, and seeing Toto last month I know how much people love this song.  Time for some Aussie love with some Air Supply and ‘Even the Nights are Better’ and finally it’s time for some Hall & Oates and the legendary ‘Maneater’ and some amazing sax work that was spectacular. These guys have the crowd in the palm of their hands. Danger Zone is blasting as they take their jackets off to screams. Too good.

Phones come out as ‘Sailing’ begins and our second Christopher Cross song of the night. God this is a beautiful song ha ha. The floor starts jumping as ‘Reelin’ in The Years’ starts and Steely Dan gets some love mind you it’s no Marvelous 3 version but it’s pretty good ha ha. Some excellent guitar work on this one was so damn good and that song just got the biggest cheer of the night. Back to Hall & Oates with ‘You Make My Dreams Come True’ and how can you not love this song? Actual question. Time to ‘Escape’ and grab a pina colada for this classic groove. Oh man this is 100% a song I never thought I’d hear anywhere, ever. ‘I’d Really Love To See You Tonight’ is the saddest banger ever and I’m here for it. That was awesome. Oh man a Bee Gees classic with ‘How Deep is Your Love?’ brilliant and the singalong made it even better. As soon as that drumbeat hits you immediately know what it is and of course it’s ’Rosanna’ by Toto. What a song and the vibe is so good in here tonight. What a classic. Sorry, THAT got the biggest reaction of the night. ‘Come and Get Your Love’ is next followed by the third Hall & Oates classic with ‘Rich Girl’ and that was brilliant. Oh wow, some ELO with ‘Don’t Bring Me Down’ and the stage is lit in red and they’re smashing this out. The keytar comes out and things rock up for a minute before ‘Baker Street’ and that phenomenal sax part. What an intro. Oh man the sax player just popped up right in front of me at the back of the venue to belt the solo out. That was awesome. Holy shit. That’s how you do it. Oh wow, a little bit of Elton John and ‘I’m Still Standing’ and it rocks. The bass kicks in for ‘Lido Shuffle’ and some awesome stage choreography tipped this one over as a huge one tonight. After this they take a break, a well deserved break as the crowd is still ready for more.

They make their way back to thank us and the promise of returning sooner rather than later as the drums thump and we all clap before the keys hit that all but familiar intro to ‘Africa’  and this is love. An outstanding drum solo outro made that even better. Wow. Oh man some Lionel!! ‘All Night Long’ an unexpected classic and I’m very happy and what a way to wrap things up. We get the band introductions and with that this night of perfection is over.

Tonight was like a floating Time Machine. The genre may have been given this name and it works, and hearing these songs played tonight in one set was magnificent. That was so much fun that I’m ready to set sail again, let’s hope Yächtley Crëw are back again very soon.

That was perfect!
