It’s Friday night in Sydney and it’s time to watch one of the best bands Australia has to offer. The night Living End!!
As they come on stage to the sold out crowd it’s time to get it going. Straight into ‘Roll On’ with the crowd immediately singing along to kick it off. Now that’s how you start a show. As Andy hits that beat it’s time for ‘Second Solution’ and the floor is shaking. Watching the love this band has in the room is outstanding as Scott climbs his bass and the place goes nuts as it should. They are hitting it with the big ones early and now with ‘Pictures in The Mirror’ it keeps going. This is so good. ‘Hey Hey Disbeliever’ is up and that driving beat keeps things rolling and they continue to get the crowd warmed up with some participation and brilliant musicianship.
Things get frantic with ‘Hold Up’ and that was crazy!! As the band riff in ‘All Torn Down’ and hearing everyone sing this one back to the stage is awesome. The breakdown solo here is perfect then they come back in to close out the song. A promise of a little bit of everything tonight is awesome and playing a brand new song for us called ‘Misery’ gets everyone keen for the forthcoming album. That was awesome. The groovy as hell ‘How Do We Know’ seduced me and I think we’re now going out. Wow. That was my favourite of the night so far. Now heading back to the first record with ‘Bloody Mary’ was a great flashback and then from the old to the new again with the brand new single ‘Alfie’ and it fit perfectly into the set and very soon to become a staple. Tonight is so rock and roll that they’re blown up an amp. That’s the best. ‘Carry Me Home’ is as RATM as you’d need tonight. That was heavy. Time for one of the big ones with ‘West End Riot’ and hearing everyone shout “RIOT!” back to the state is spectacular. God damn this band can play. Chris climbs the bass as the place goes nuts, they can’t do a thing wrong tonight. Scott takes a rest for story time and quote of the night is “the band that drinks together stays together” and they sure have and just keep getting better by doing it. Time for ‘White Noise’ and another favourite. With some amazing crowd participation they destroy this one and surprised they didn’t blow up another amp before they leave the stage for a well deserved breather.
They’re back with a little Country and Western allowing Chris to show off a little. The band join in for this perfect little jam and it just shows off their talent. This three piece is just beyond impressive. Rounding out this medley with some Dirty Deeds that ruled. Another new one now with ‘Strange Place’ and these new songs are great. Then oh my god ‘Prisoner of Society’ was insane. That was what tonight was about and hearing the love for this song was insane. What an absolute banger. ‘Uncle Harry’ closes the show and with that, we’ve all just witnessed one of if not the best live band in Australia. And with an “adios amigos” that’s it.
New music coming means more shows, so get out and see this band. You won’t leave disappointed.
