Following Coheed And Cambria’s critically acclaimed, album release of volume one of their double-album, The Afterman: Ascension on October 12th, 2012, the band announces the release of volume two, The Afterman: Descension via V2 on February 8th, 2013.
It was announced previously at July’s San Diego Comic Con that The Amory Wars (the cosmic narrative spanning five concept albums, comic books and a novel Created by guitarist/singer/songwriter Claudio Sanchez) has been picked up by Mark Wahlbergand Stephen Levinson of Leverage Productions to be developed into a live-action feature film. Musically, ‘The Afterman’ sees the band perfecting their powerhouse progressive rock, soul and even pop landscapes. The dual release also marks the return of original drummer Josh Eppard, who the band parted ways with in 2006, bringing with him his benchmark percussive grooves. Coheed and Cambria self-financed and co-produced ‘The Afterman,’alongside Michael Birnbaum and Chris Bittner, who produced the band’s first 3 albums, in Woodstock, NY. ‘The Afterman’ was mixed by Rich Costey (Muse, The Shins, Foster the People) and Ryan Williams (30 Seconds To Mars). “This is without a doubt, the most honest record I’ve ever written,” says Sanchez. “Though all the songs can be interpreted through our main character in the story, they were initially written in a very spontaneous manner.” “In the past,” he continues,” I’ve always had a predetermined idea of what the story was going to be when I approached the songs. With ‘The Afterman’ being a new story within the (Amory Wars) arc, I allowed the events of my life to drive the concept, and therefore opened up the songwriting to a fuller degree.” In the story arc of The Afterman: Descension, we continue the conceptual storyline from volume one, where Sirius Amory, i.e., “The Afterman,” is a scientist/cosmonaut who goes on celestial mission and makes what is arguably the most important discovery ever known to mankind. But upon his return, he discovers his ambitiousness may have brought him fleeting fame, but also tragic repercussions. About The Afterman: The first volume from the double-album charts Sirius’ sci-fi journey into the stars of the alternate universe known well by Coheed fans as “Heaven’s Fence.” Upon entering “the Keywork,” the blue gaseous energy force that powers these worlds, Amory stumbles upon the Afterlife. In his first confrontation with a soul, “Domino the Destitute” possesses Sirius, who is forced to relive the frenetic events that had occurred in Domino’s waking life. The second volume, ’Descension’ follows Sirius’ return to his home planet after a long absence and the negative effects that follow. About The Amory Wars: Created by guitarist/singer/songwriter Claudio Sanchez, The Armory Wars is a cosmic narrative spanning five concept albums, countless comic books, and a novel co-written by Peter David. It’s become a defining tale for hundreds of thousands of dedicated Coheed fans, who devour and dissect each new chapter with an ardor to rival followers of Lost or Game of Thrones. Mark Wahlberg and Steve Levinson recently announced that they will produce the live-action film version. www.coheedandcambria.com The Afterman: Descension will be released via V2/ Cooperative Music on February 8th, 2013. |
