Jeff Martin of the iconic Canadian band, The Tea Party, will release his new solo record – “The Seven Deadly Sins” on the Seventh of the Seventh, 2023.
This powerful album addresses each of the 7 Sins, whilst incorporating the plethora of exotic instruments Jeff Martin has accumulated over the years of touring, and living in places such as Egypt, Turkey, Prague, Italy, Ireland, Morocco, and now Australia where he has called home for 15 years.
The majestic approach to his compositions since the early Tea Party records has been a source of fascination for his fans across the world. The Seven Deadly Sins is sure to reinspire his dedicated followers, whilst igniting new curious music lovers who yearn for music of depth, darkness, and unique beauty that an artist like Jeff Martin effortlessly brings to the table.
“The journey this album has taken me on has been riddled with emotion at every turn, plans unraveled, pitfalls were stumbled upon, and the darkness and beauty of the sins manifested and took their grip on many levels.
I am so very proud of this album, and the process of creating and producing this ‘concept’ album was something that I am truly grateful for. To play all of my exotic instruments again was a beautiful delve back into my musical beginnings with The Tea Party, and I fell in love all over again with these exquisite forms of arsenal that were literally hanging on my studio walls as art pieces. Now, they all take up residency amongst my guitars. Re-strung, and reignited with Magick”, says Jeff Martin.
The Seven Deadly Sins is one of Jeff’s proudest moments as an accomplished artist and producer for over 30 years, and truly harks back to the heart and soul of his multi-cultural influences. It was a musical potion that he needed, and the recent pandemic pulled Jeff into a whole new space of creativity, and it became a symbol of endurance and perseverance.
The record was made possible via his fans rallying together in support of the release via Pozible – a crowd funding campaign that exceeded expectations!
A proud permanent resident of Australia, Jeff recorded the album at his studio on The Sunshine Coast in QLD with his dear friend, Darren Evans, on drums and percussion. Besides writing, performing, and producing the album, Jeff also played a plethora of instruments such as the Gimbre (acoustic Moroccan Bass), the Hurdy Gurdy, the Sitar, the Khem (Thai Dulcimer), Tanpura (Indian Drone Bass) just to name a few.
The incredible artwork was created by Perth artist, Robert Buratti, who has previously created art for The Tea Party’s live tour backdrops, and other Jeff Martin solo releases. The Seven Deadly Sins artwork has an Augmented Reality component whereby a QR code makes the front cover come to life in a somewhat cinematic experience!
