“For me it’s the mood/vibe and message I’m trying to send. I usually have one part or line in mind and develop the rest of the song to even further push the boundaries in that direction.”
From Bio: The latest welcome addition to Nashville’s flourishing indie pop landscape, Andy Feller, newly performing under the moniker FOXKEEPER, hails originally from Tampa, Florida. Since settling into his new home of Music City, Feller has enlisted the help of top notch producers and performers to help craft FOXKEEPER’s inaugural release, “The Beach Dream EP.” With indie pop/rock melodies, thoughtful lyricism, and dreamlike atmospheres, FOXKEEPER’s style is inspirational, emotional, and powerfully moving, and definitely ranks among of our most-anticipated new local releases. Andy has recently assembled a band of talented Nashville musicians, all with their own unique style to bring to the table: Steven Pericht on Synth, Bass & BGVs, Jason Ford on Lead Guitar & Kyle Burchett on Drums. FOXKEEPER is currently on the road this summer and in the process of writing a full length album, release date coming soon.
We teamed up with ReverbNation to share some talent with the world, check out Foxkeeper from Nashville, we dug their sound and found them very worthy of being one of our Best Things You’ve Never Heard!
Let’s start with the basics; for those that aren’t aware of you, can you please give us the abridged version of your story, and how you would best describe your music?
I started this project on my own a couple years back after I moved up to Tennessee from Florida. I recorded my debut EP in Nashville and then met some dudes that started jamming the songs with me. We played our first show in February of 17. The dudes were into the music and we all became super good friends; so they actually became part of the band and are now involved more in the writing process. It’s been a super fun journey thus far.
Can you now please introduce each band member including yourself, and give us a rock ‘n’ roll fact or myth about each of you?
Jason Ford, plays Lead Guitar. Word on the street is that he plays all of John Mayer’s guitar parts.
Steven Pericht, plays Bass + Synthesizer as well as sings BGVs. He’s known for wearing a speedo on stage sometimes. Yeah just the speedo. Also this is at other band’s shows; he calls this move the ‘Roshambo.’
Kyle Burchett plays the Drums. Kyle’s quietest playing level on a 1-10 scale in which 10 is the loudest is an 11.
I’m Andy Feller, I do Vocals and play a few things. I’ve been told “you sound like the ‘Your body is a wonderland guy’.”
In terms of your music and any releases, instead of giving us a standard review, let’s say if you had to give us your best door to door sales pitch to try and convince someone to listen to it before they slam the door in your face, what do you say to them?
I would say hey; ya dig music? how about guitars? And nostalgic + funky feelings? And maybe you like to sway or dance to some tunes and partay? Check us out on the Spotify Machine under FOXKEEPER. Also I think I’m going to just start knocking on doors and read this to them and see where it gets me.
With your song writing, what do you consider to be the most important ingredients that make up one of your songs?
For me it’s the mood/vibe and message I’m trying to send. I usually have one part or line in mind and develop the rest of the song to even further push the boundaries in that direction.
Are there current plans for any future releases you can give us the scoop on?
We are in the process of writing a full length, we’re stoked to show the world! That’s all I’m allowed to say for now.
So what bands did you grow up listening to and how did they help create the style of music that can now be heard throughout your music?
All of us in the band come from very different backgrounds which definitely keeps things interesting and diverse. I personally was raised on some classic stuff primarily; Tom Petty, The Eagles, America, Journey, Stevie Nicks, Phil Collins, MJ. I think every single thing you’ve heard in some way weighs in subconsciously.
In terms of touring, here’s your chance to plug any upcoming shows, and for those that haven’t seen you, how would you describe a typical live show of yours?
We are doing some national dates and some local shows this summer that we’re stoked about! You can check all the details on our website, just our band name url which is foxkeeper.com. Our live show as like floating inside a zero-gravity machine while cooking bacon with your George Foreman grill and yes there will be jams and friendly fellowship (were making breakfast after all).
For a bit of fun, say you get the chance to open for any artist or band in the world, who would they be and why?
Toto or Mouse Rat for obvious reasons.
If you were to cover one song that no one would expect that you’d cover what would it be and why?
Maybe something by Childish Gambino cuz Donald Glover is a freaking monster.
Lastly, here’s a chance to grab a magic lamp and from it you are granted three wishes. They are:
- Everyone in the world learns to flee from religion and starts to love their neighbor more.
- People stop killing themselves and realize they should stay. Help is here – suicidepreventionlifeline.org
- Springsteen hits us up and is like yo, you guys wanna tour with me?
