Australia’s The Amity Affliction have entered a Florida studio to work on their proper Roadrunner Records debut, Chasing Ghosts.
Chasing Ghosts is scheduled to be released on September 14. It follows the band’s previous album Youngbloods, which debuted #6 on the Aria Charts and was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance at both the ARIA and AIR Awards. . The Amity Affliction are holed up in the studio with producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette (Blessthefall, Incubus) as they prepare their latest.
Frontman Joel Birch checked in from the studio to shed a little light on the process, saying, “Recording with Elvis has been the most amazing experience for Amity since we began making records eight years ago. It’s incredible. We came into this record more prepared than we ever have before as well, so everything is coming together really, really well.”
Birch further stated, “We’re all loving the new songs. It feels like there is an entire album of awesome songs that we love which hasn’t happened prior to this; we’ve finally written an album we are proud of from start to finish, no filler whatsoever.” The singer also commented on the lyrical direction of Chasing Ghosts, revealing, “I’ve tried to write my thoughts in a manner that can connect with people on an even more personal level than I did on Youngbloods, and I’m proud that the substance and depth hasn’t been lost or compromised, or watered down.”
Alternative Press magazine, which named The Amity Affliction as one of its 100 Bands You Need To Know In 2012 has lauded the band for its “brutally honest racket,” saying, “While you can waste as much time as you want throwing labels such as post-hardcore, scream or metalcore at the Australian quintet, all that matters is they write honest songs with tons of hooks and some serious bite.”
