Due to overwhelming demand, Metropolis Touring is proud to announce that\u00a0three more dates<\/strong>\u00a0have been added to the upcoming\u00a0DEF FX Reunion Tour<\/strong>.\u00a0 As well as shows in\u00a0Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne<\/strong>,\u00a0DEF FX<\/strong>\u00a0will also hitHobart, Adelaide and Perth\u00a0<\/strong>for their ramped-up national tour.\u00a0\u00a0Tickets for the new shows go on sale on Tuesday February 28<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Lead by the ever-vivacious lead vocalist,\u00a0Fiona Horne<\/strong>, and original bass player\u00a0Martyn Basha<\/strong>, the band is set to rock audiences when they take the stage for their first shows in 15 years.<\/p>\n

Formed in Sydney in 1990,\u00a0DEF FX<\/strong>\u00a0carved out a unique place in Australian music \u2013 both sonically and iconically.\u00a0 At the core of the band\u2019s success and their critical and public attention was their inimitable blend of electronic beats and samples, rock\/metal instrumentation and grunge vocals, which saw them draw comparisons with artists as disparate as\u00a0Pink Floyd, Metallica and The Prodigy<\/strong>.\u00a0 Add to this the charm and charisma of the enchanting Horne and a killer live show, and you have a winning combination that saw\u00a0DEF FX<\/strong>\u00a0maintain the intrigue and fascination of audiences well beyond the duration of their recording history.<\/p>\n

Throughout their career,\u00a0DEF FX<\/strong>\u00a0developed the reputation for being one of the hardest working bands in the country.\u00a0 Not surprisingly, they also developed one of the most amazing live shows, with a focal point being the performances of the always-enigmatic Horne.\u00a0 As well as their own tours, the band played the\u00a01992 Concert for Life, the 1992, 1994 and 1995 Livid Festivals, the 1995 Alternative Nation Concert<\/strong>, played the\u00a0Homebake<\/strong>\u00a0Festival\u00a0<\/strong>and supported\u00a0the Smashing Pumpkins in 1996\u00a0<\/strong>and took the stage a mammoth four times at the\u00a0Big Day out in 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite numerous line-up changes,\u00a0DEF FX<\/strong>\u00a0worked hard to establish a solid fan base that saw them grow from strength to strength from their early releases through to mainstream success. \u00a0\u00a0It was, of course, the support from these fans that saw\u00a0DEF FX<\/strong>\u00a0enjoy\u00a0consecutive number ones on the ARIA Independent Charts from 1990<\/strong>\u00a0throughout their career, and hold the record for having three releases in the\u00a0ARIA Top 20 Independent Charts at the same time in 1992 \u2013 the Water EP, the Surge EP and the Blink EP<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 1992, the band released their debut album\u00a0LIGHT SPEED COLLISION<\/em><\/strong>, which featured the singles \u2018Space Time Disco\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u2018No Time For Nowhere\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0\u2018Sex Game Sucker\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(from the Blink EP).\u00a0 The album reached\u00a0No. 84 on the ARIA Charts,\u00a0<\/strong>and for told of the good fortune to come for\u00a0DEF FX.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The band\u2019s early EPs were collected together and released as the\u00a0BAPTISM<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0album in 1993.\u00a0 This was followed shortly after by the release of the\u00a0POST MORONIC\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>EP in 1994.\u00a0 The EP was another charting success for the band, reaching\u00a0No. 43 on the ARIA Charts<\/strong>, and spawned the\u00a0triple J hit\u00a0\u2018Masses Like Asses\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, which\u00a0also ranked in the 1994 Hottest 100.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During 1995\u00a0DEF FX<\/strong>\u00a0started their own label, Cicada Music, on which they rereleased most of their old material as well as the more experimental album,\u00a0RITUAL ETERNAL<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Later that same year the band released \u2018Psychoactive Summer\u2019<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 More pop than their previous releases, \u2018Psychoactive Summer\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0was an instant\u00a0hit on both triple J (No. 51 on the 1995 triple J Hottest 100) and commercial stations, and reached No. 42 on the ARIA Charts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In\u00a01996, DEF FX<\/strong>\u00a0released their final and by far most successful album,\u00a0MAJICK<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0which reached gold sales status in 1997<\/strong>.\u00a0 Featuring the songs \u2018Psychoactive Summer\u2019<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0\u2018I\u2019ll Be Your Majick\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(No. 61 on the 1996 triple J Hottest 100<\/strong>), and\u00a0\u2018Spell On You\u2019,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>the album integrated more pop and electronica into their sound than any of their previous releases.<\/p>\n

Now, with the announcement of the reunion tour, fans will get their chance to relive the sounds of\u00a0DEF FX<\/strong>\u00a0and be a part of the evolution of\u00a0DEF FX<\/strong>\u00a0history.\u00a0 Original members\u00a0Horne\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Basha<\/strong>\u00a0will be joined by\u00a0Ant Banister<\/strong>\u00a0(founding member of the 90\u2019s label and electronic art music collective, Clan Analogue) and NSW\u2019s North Coast sonic metal rock guitarist,\u00a0Wiley Cochrane.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Joining\u00a0DEF FX<\/strong>\u00a0in Sydney and Melbourne are industrial rockers,\u00a0INSURGE<\/strong>. With 20 years of politically charged music powering behind them, including the triple J hits\u00a0\u2018Political Prisoners’, \u2018Speculator\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0\u2018Timebomb\u2019<\/em>,<\/strong>\u00a0INSURGE<\/strong>\u00a0are sure to get audiences electrified and at the ready!<\/p>\n
