Released in December 1985,\u00a0For The Working Class Man<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0went straight to number one on the chart and helped define Jimmy\u2019s hugely successful solo career. As the authors of\u00a0The 100 Best Australian Albums\u00a0<\/em>declared, \u201cIt defined both him and much of Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n

The album spent seven weeks at number one, becoming Barnesy\u2019s longest-running chart-topper. And it has sold more than 500,000 copies in Australia.<\/p>\n

For The Working Class Man<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is packed with classics, including Jimmy\u2019s first Top 10 solo single\u00a0I\u2019d Die To Be With You Tonight<\/em>, the Top 40 smash\u00a0Ride The Night Away<\/em>, and the beautiful ballad that he wrote for his wife Jane,\u00a0Without Your Love<\/em>.<\/p>\n

And, of course, the album features his signature song, the unofficial national anthem,\u00a0Working Class Man<\/em>.<\/p>\n

For the Working Class Man<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0also included seven reworked songs from his chart-topping solo debut\u00a0Bodyswerve<\/em>,<\/strong>\u00a0including\u00a0No Second Prize, Daylight<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Promise Me You\u2019ll Call<\/em>.<\/p>\n

To coincide with the landmark tour, a special 40th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary release of the album via Mushroom Music will be welcome news to collectors and music fans alike, released on Friday 14 November and available to preorder now\u00a0here<\/a>. Honouring the formats originally released in 1985 and newly remastered for the anniversary,\u00a0For The Working Class Man<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0will be released as a 2LP ‘flame’ coloured, hand-poured vinyl in a gatefold jacket, the first time it’s been on two records since it hit shelves. Also for the first time since 1985, the singles will be available as an exclusive limited-edition boxset of coloured 7″s \u2013\u00a0Ride The Night Away, I’d Die To Be With You Tonight, Working Class Man<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 and a new fourth single which includes a stripped back, re-worked version of\u00a0Working Class Man<\/em>\u00a0and a 10-minute reflection by Jimmy on the creation of the iconic music video. The 40th<\/sup>\u00a0Anniversary Edition will also be available on CD and cassette.\u00a0The album\u2019s cultural impact is undeniable; it continues to hold lasting significance in the DNA of Australian music.\u00a0Working Class Man<\/em>\u00a0was recently included in the triple j Hottest 100 of Australian Songs. The juggernaut that is\u00a0JIMMY BARNES<\/strong>\u00a0is showing no signs of slowing down.<\/p>\n

KATE CEBERANO<\/strong>\u00a0was still a teenager when\u00a0For<\/em>\u00a0The Working Class Man<\/em>\u00a0was released, but she was already a star, fronting the band I\u2019m Talking. Paul Kelly sums up Kate\u2019s diverse career: \u201cShe\u2019s made jazz albums, sung with symphony orchestras and collaborated with a range of singers \u2026 she\u2019s doing it all.\u201d Kate has also won\u00a0Dancing With The Stars<\/em>, five ARIA Awards and been honoured with the Order of Australia. Kate has recently been embracing Oz-music\u2019s rich past with her\u00a0Australian Made Tour\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Live\u00a0<\/em>album\u00a0<\/em>\u2013 and is treating audiences to an encore on Jimmy\u2019s tour. Boasting a setlist of her own Platinum catalogue alongside songs made famous by Cold Chisel, ICEHOUSE, Divinyls through to Sia, Bernard Fanning and Wolfmother, this is a simultaneous act of grateful reflection and bold creative evolution.
