Glenn Hughes<\/b>,\u00a0the former bassist, and singer of\u00a0Deep Purple<\/b>, known to millions as the\u00a0\u2018Voice of Rock\u2019<\/b>,\u00a0Rock and Roll Hall of Fame\u00a0<\/b>inductee will perform songs from\u00a0Deep Purple<\/b>\u2019s\u00a0legendary\u00a0rock\u00a0album\u00a0\u201cBURN\u201d\u00a0<\/b>along\u00a0with\u00a0Deep\u00a0Purple\u00a0MKIII\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0MKIV\u00a0<\/b>songs.<\/p>\n

‘It was 50 years ago, in the summer of 1973, that the\u00a0BURN\u00a0<\/b>album by\u00a0Deep Purple\u00a0<\/b>was written\u00a0at\u00a0Clearwell\u00a0castle\u00a0in\u00a0The\u00a0Forrest\u00a0of\u00a0Dean,\u00a0Gloucestershire,\u201d\u00a0reminisces\u00a0Glenn.\u00a0\u201cIt was recorded in October in Montreux, Switzerland.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Continues\u00a0Hughes,\u00a0\u201cWe\u00a0all\u00a0became\u00a0one\u00a0in\u00a0this\u00a0centuries\u00a0old\u00a0castle\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0UK\u00a0countryside,\u00a0it felt like Deep were a new band, with\u00a0David (Coverdale)\u00a0<\/b>and I as new members, we couldn\u2019t\u00a0wait\u00a0to\u00a0start\u00a0working\u00a0on\u00a0new\u00a0songs.\u00a0The\u00a0atmosphere\u00a0was\u00a0electric,\u00a0in\u00a0such\u00a0amazing surroundings.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cAll the songs on\u00a0Burn\u00a0<\/b>were written in the crypt\/dungeon, underneath\u00a0the\u00a0great\u00a0hall.\u00a0We\u00a0worked\u00a0on\u00a0a\u00a0new\u00a0song\u00a0every day,\u00a0and\u00a0we\u00a0were\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0flow.\u00a0Musically\u00a0we\u00a0would\u00a0play,\u00a0and work out ideas, and David and I would come up with vocal melodies that would later have lyrics. I remember it like it was yesterday.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you could imagine,\u00a0Ritchie Blackmore\u00a0<\/b>was in full prankster mode, Jon had warned me, and he rigged my room\u00a0one\u00a0night\u00a0with\u00a0a\u00a0speaker\u00a0that\u00a0was\u00a0hidden,\u00a0and\u00a0had ghostly voices delivered to my bedside.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe title track was the last song to be written. We came back\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0pub,\u00a0and\u00a0went\u00a0down\u00a0into\u00a0the\u00a0crypt,\u00a0and\u00a0magic\u00a0happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burn\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>is the eighth studio album by the English rock band\u00a0Deep Purple<\/b>, written and recorded\u00a0in\u00a01973,\u00a0and\u00a0released\u00a0in\u00a0February\u00a01974.\u00a0The\u00a0album\u00a0was\u00a0the\u00a0first\u00a0to\u00a0feature\u00a0then- unknown\u00a0David Coverdale\u00a0<\/b>on vocals and\u00a0Glenn Hughes<\/b>, from\u00a0Trapeze<\/b>, on bass and\u00a0vocals.<\/span><\/p>\n

The album was recorded in Montreux, Switzerland, in November 1973, with the\u00a0Rolling Stones\u00a0<\/b>Mobile\u00a0Studio.\u00a0With\u00a0the\u00a0addition\u00a0of\u00a0David\u00a0Coverdale\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0Glenn\u00a0Hughes<\/b>,\u00a0Purple’s hard rock sound became more boogie-oriented, incorporating elements of soul and funk, which would become much more prominent on the follow-up album,\u00a0Stormbringer<\/i><\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Burn\u00a0<\/i><\/b>hit\u00a0#3\u00a0<\/b>on\u00a0the\u00a0UK\u00a0Albums\u00a0Chart<\/b>,\u00a0#9\u00a0<\/b>on\u00a0the\u00a0US\u00a0Billboard\u00a0200<\/b>,\u00a0and\u00a0#1\u00a0<\/b>in\u00a0Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Norway.<\/p>\n

In 2004\u00a0Burn\u00a0<\/i><\/b>was remastered and released with bonus tracks.\u00a0Coronarias Redig\u00a0<\/i><\/b>was recorded during the\u00a0Burn\u00a0<\/i><\/b>recording sessions, used only as a B-side for the\u00a0Might Just Take Your Life\u00a0<\/i><\/b>single in 1974. It appears as a bonus track (in remixed form) on the anniversary\u00a0edition\u00a0re-release.\u00a0The\u00a02004\u00a0remix\u00a0version\u00a0of\u00a0Burn\u00a0<\/i><\/b>was\u00a0later\u00a0used\u00a0in\u00a0Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock<\/b>.<\/p>\n

In 2005 an unauthorised documentary about the album was produced as part of\u00a0“The Ultimate\u00a0Critical\u00a0Review”\u00a0<\/b>series.\u00a0It\u00a0featured\u00a0brand\u00a0new\u00a0interview\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0original\u00a0Deep Purple Mk III\u00a0<\/b>bassist and vocalist\u00a0Glenn Hughes<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Lead\u00a0single\u00a0Might\u00a0Just\u00a0Take\u00a0Your\u00a0Life<\/i><\/b>,\u00a0released\u00a04\u00a0March,\u00a0was\u00a0Deep\u00a0Purple’s\u00a0<\/b>first\u00a0UK single in two years.<\/p>\n

The phenomenal title track started things off at full throttle and challenged the seminal\u00a0Highway\u00a0Star\u00a0<\/i><\/b>for\u00a0the\u00a0honour\u00a0of\u00a0best\u00a0opener\u00a0to\u00a0any\u00a0Deep\u00a0Purple\u00a0<\/b>album,\u00a0while\u00a0showcasing the always impressive drumming of\u00a0Ian Paice<\/b>. The fantastic slow-boiling blues of\u00a0Mistreated’s\u00a0<\/i><\/b>greatness qualifies it\u00a0for the highest\u00a0echelons of\u00a0hard rock achievement,\u00a0and therefore ranks as an essential item in the discography of any self-respecting music fan.<\/span><\/p>\n
