But playing it with this band, and with Brian Johnson singing, it was an achievement I would never have imagined back then. Let alone Steven Tyler providing the harp.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><strong>&#8211;SLASH\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;When Slash asked me to sing on\u00a0<strong>Killing Floor,<\/strong>\u00a0I said yes immediately. It was one of the first songs I learned in my very first band, and when he played me the backing track it was a no-brainer, and Steven&#8217;s harmonica is so bloody hot. \u00a0I had a ball with Slash in the studio, and I think we did this great old song justice. Rock on.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><strong>&#8211;Brian Johnson (AC\/DC)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>By celebrating both well-known and largely undiscovered songs,\u00a0<strong>SLASH<\/strong>\u00a0offers a nostalgic nod to the past while reinvigorating the songs with his inimitable guitar playing and the spirit of collaboration. For\u00a0<em><strong>Orgy of the Damned<\/strong><\/em>, the acclaimed guitarist reteamed with storied producer<strong>\u00a0Mike Clink\u00a0<\/strong>and enlisted the<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>album&#8217;s diverse guest vocalists which include<strong>\u00a0Gary Clark Jr, Billy F. Gibbons, Chris Stapleton, Dorothy, Iggy Pop, Paul Rodgers, Demi Lovato, Brian Johnson, Tash Neal, Chris Robinson<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Beth Hart,\u00a0<\/strong>in a similar way to his 2010 self-titled solo LP\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dallasdoespr.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a305962aa31ffaf04d517efaa&amp;id=2ef29162bc&amp;e=d533bb1502\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Slash<\/a>. To round out his band in the studio and on the road,\u00a0<strong>SLASH\u00a0<\/strong>reunited with two of his bandmates from his\u00a0<strong>Blues Ball\u00a0<\/strong>outfit in the 90&#8217;s, bassist\u00a0<strong>Johnny Griparic<\/strong>\u00a0and keyboardist\u00a0<strong>Teddy Andreadis<\/strong>, and brought on drummer\u00a0<strong>Michael Jerome<\/strong>\u00a0and singer\/guitarist<strong>\u00a0Tash Neal.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although he grew up in England,\u00a0<strong>SLASH&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0American grandmother turned him on to the blues early on and he was immediately taken with\u00a0<strong>B.B. King<\/strong>. At the same time, his parents raised him on a healthy diet of &#8217;60s British rock &#8216;n&#8217; roll, from\u00a0<strong>The Who<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>The Kinks<\/strong>. Once he moved to\u00a0<strong>Laurel Canyon<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>SLASH<\/strong>\u00a0found himself surrounded by rock and folk singers like\u00a0<strong>Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills &amp; Nash, and Neil Young<\/strong>\u2014all of whom eventually inspired his playing and songwriting. It wasn&#8217;t until he began playing guitar himself that\u00a0<strong>SLASH\u00a0<\/strong>realised all of his favourite musicians had been influenced by the same\u00a0<strong>B.B. King blues records<\/strong>\u00a0he&#8217;d listened to as a young kid.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Orgy of the Damned<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0encompasses a broad range of styles within the blues genre, veering from an upbeat, rowdy take on\u00a0<strong>Robert Johnson&#8217;s &#8220;Crossroads&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0to a plaintive, twanging rendition of\u00a0<strong>T. Bone Walker&#8217;s &#8220;Stormy Monday.&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong>Some of the songs, like\u00a0<strong>Steppenwolf&#8217;s &#8220;The Pusher,&#8221; Charlie Segar&#8217;s &#8220;Key to the Highway&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Albert King&#8217;s &#8220;Born Under a Bad Sign,&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0had been performed by\u00a0<strong>Slash&#8217;s Blues Ball<\/strong>\u00a0while others, like\u00a0<strong>Stevie Wonder&#8217;s &#8220;Living for the City,&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0were long-time favorites for<strong>\u00a0Slash<\/strong>.\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Hoochie Coochie Man,&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0written by\u00a0<strong>Willie Dixon,<\/strong>\u00a0and made famous by\u00a0<strong>Muddy Waters in 1954<\/strong>, showcases the in-the-moment nature and unrestrained energy of\u00a0<em><strong>Orgy of the Damned<\/strong><\/em>, with\u00a0<strong>Z.Z. Top&#8217;s Billy F. Gibbons<\/strong>\u00a0stepping in on guitar and vocals. The group went into a rehearsal room in North Hollywood and began hashing out soulful, rollicking takes on the classic songs. Everything was played live in the room, with an emphasis on improvisation which resulted in a collection of dynamic, energised songs that are immediate, raw, and distinctly familiar.<\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0<strong>SLASH<\/strong>\u00a0was considering vocalists, he approached his old friend and collaborator\u00a0<strong>Iggy Pop<\/strong>, who had long wanted to record a blues song.\u00a0<strong>Pop<\/strong>\u00a0suggested\u00a0<strong>Lightnin&#8217; Hopkins&#8217; 1962 track &#8220;Awful Dream,&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0a sparse, drawling number originally laid down on acoustic guitar. The duo decided to recreate that stripped back vibe and recorded their own languid, emotionally-resonate version sitting on two stools in\u00a0<strong>SLASH&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>studio.\u00a0<em>&#8220;Iggy&#8217;s interpretation of that song is actually sublime,&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0says<strong>\u00a0SLASH.<\/strong>\u00a0<em>&#8220;And it&#8217;s something that nobody&#8217;s really heard from him. At the end of the track, you can hear him just singing the harmonica parts.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere on\u00a0<em><strong>Orgy of the Damned<\/strong>,<\/em>\u00a0<strong>Demi Lovato<\/strong>\u00a0lends her powerhouse voice to\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Papa Was a Rollin&#8217; Stone,&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0a fervent, soulful version of the\u00a0<strong>1972 single by The Temptations<\/strong>\u00a0that\u00a0<strong>SLASH\u00a0<\/strong>admired as a kid. Although the song veers more towards R&amp;B, the guitarist wanted to give it his own impassioned spin. The album concludes with a soaring original instrumental number,\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Metal Chestnut,&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0penned specifically for\u00a0<em><strong>Orgy of the Damned<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0<strong>Slash<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Orgy of the Damned<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>showcases a lesser-heard aspect of<strong>\u00a0SLASH&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>musical prowess.
