The Gaslight Anthem<\/b>\u00a0have shared a new song \u201cHistory Books<\/b>,\u201d available now at all DSPs and streaming services on their own Rich Mahogany Recordings label via Thirty Tigers. The heavy-hearted track \u2013 which sees frontman\u00a0Brian Fallon<\/b>\u00a0trading duet vocals with longtime band champion and fellow New Jerseyan\u00a0Bruce Springsteen<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 is accompanied by an official music video (directed by Kelsey Ayres) streaming now on YouTube. The album was produced by GRAMMY\u00ae Award-winner Peter Katis (The National, Kurt Vile) at his Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, CT.<\/p>\n

\u201cHistory Books\u201d also serves as title track for the Gaslight Anthem\u2019s first new album together in almost a decade.\u00a0HISTORY BOOKS<\/i><\/b>\u00a0arrives at last on\u00a0Friday, October 27<\/b>.\u00a0Pre-orders are available now<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Bruce Springsteen said I should write a duet for us, I think my head exploded,\u201d says Brian Fallon. \u201cIt will never get old to me that one of the greatest songwriters in the world, and one of my hero\u2019s voices, will forever be captured in a song I wrote at a small wooden desk, in October, in New Jersey.\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Having the band come this far and be able to still find inspiration and connection in our music is a treasure. The Gaslight Anthem\u2019s sixth full-length (and first release from their own Rich Mahogany Recordings, distributed via Thirty Tigers\/Cooking Vinyl Australia),\u00a0HISTORY BOOKS<\/i>\u00a0sees the New Jersey-bred band once again bringing their soulful breed of life-affirming rock n\u2019 roll to explore everything from mortality and mental illness to the more precarious dimensions of human connection. In the glorious tradition of their seminal 2008 sophomore album,\u00a0THE \u201959 SOUND<\/i>, the new LP matches its raw emotional power with the rich craft and wildly triumphant energy that has defined the band since its very start.<\/p>\n

\u201cNone of us wanted to make a very somber or serious record showing how much we\u2019ve matured,\u201d says Fallon. \u201cWe\u2019ve all changed and grown and learned so much, but the overall mood was a feeling of excitement to be back together and making music that means something to us.\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

HISTORY BOOKS<\/i>\u00a0was first heralded by this spring\u2019s arrival of the joyous \u201cPositive Charge,\u201d joined by an official visualizer created by filmmaker Juliet Bryant (Death Cab for Cutie, Queens of the Stone Age, Beck) and streaming now at YouTube. \u201cIt\u2019s electrifying,<\/i>\u201d declared\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/i>\u00a0upon the song\u2019s premiere. \u201cOpening with a stomping drumbeat and a skronky guitar lick, the track\u2019s dissonant attack is at odds with the optimistic message of the lyrics.<\/i>\u201d\u00a0Stereogum<\/i>\u00a0agreed, writing, \u201c\u2018Positive Charge\u2019 is about wanting to live a little longer and love this life again, and it\u2019s got the grand Springsteenian scope that makes the Gaslight Anthem so special.<\/i>\u201d<\/p>\n
