\"\"<\/a>Australian alternative bright lights\u00a0Yours Truly<\/strong>\u00a0have announced their brand new EP\u00a0is this what i look like?\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>which will be coming\u00a0out 15th July 2022 via\u00a0UNFD<\/strong>.\u00a0 The band have also released a new song and video\u00a0Hallucinate\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>which features\u00a0Josh Franceschi\u00a0<\/strong>of\u00a0You Me At Six<\/strong>. This will be the first full release from the band since their huge debut\u00a0Self Care<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0back in 2020, and also features a guest spot from\u00a0DR\u20acW \u00a5ORK<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0Stray From the Path<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the new single\u00a0Mikaila Delgado<\/strong>\u00a0explains:\u00a0“Hallucinate is an anxiety attack turned into music, detailing how it takes over\u00a0your\u00a0body so totally that it feels as if you’re under the influence of something. I’ve struggled badly with anxiety and it’s debilitating every day to be at war with\u00a0your\u00a0own thoughts. It’s one of the darkest songs we’ve ever written but I found a lot of power in pulling out the chaos of how anxiety feels and sounds to me and putting it in a song.”<\/em><\/p>\n

This brilliant new EP marks the start of a new chapter for\u00a0Yours Truly<\/strong>, inspired by the music they are all collectively\u00a0listening to now (Bring Me The Horizon, The 1975, Bloc Party, Head Automatica) , the seven tracks see the band scatter in every direction possible. There’s the electro-thrash of\u00a0Lights On<\/strong><\/em>, the aching alt-rock swagger of recent single\u00a0Walk Over My Grave<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and the fearless pop stomp of\u00a0If You’re Drowning (I’ll Learn How To Hold My Breath)<\/strong><\/em>. Though actually, this new EP\u00a0was never meant to be a bold step forward for the group, and was originally planned as a three-track companion to their debut album\u00a0Self Care<\/strong><\/em>, called\u00a0Self-Sabotage<\/strong><\/em>. The EP was meant to tackle something other than the “sunshine and butterflies” of their debut album, dig deeper, be more true and reflective of the band now.\u00a0“We spent that whole album telling people everything was going to be alright but the world had clearly taken a turn. Over the past few years, self care has been incredibly difficult,”<\/em>\u00a0explains\u00a0Delgado<\/strong>.\u00a0“We wanted to explore ‘that’.”\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Is this what i look like?<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0stays true to that goal, but once they got into the studio with their “anything goes” attitude, they realised these songs\u00a0“felt like a different universe entirely”.\u00a0<\/em>Rather than running scared or trying to dial it back, the band decided to jump in, accept these new challenges and make themselves at home. It’s a bold move for a band who, in it for the long haul, wanted to just gradually push things forward on every record. However two years without touring and without being able to get in the practice space together has changed that patient mindset.\u00a0“Now we just want to write the songs we want to write. Let’s not be afraid. Let’s just be the best band we possibly can.”\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

While\u00a0Self Care\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>was inspired by conversations between all four members of the band about their mental health,\u00a0is this what i look like?<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0saw\u00a0Delgado<\/strong>\u00a0isolated, alone and uncertain about her place in the world.\u00a0“My entire adult life has been Yours Truly. With that taken away, I was in a bad place. Not being able to perform was depressing,”\u00a0<\/em>she explains. She poured that into her writing. Brutal, raw and revealing\u00a0“all the songs are about coming to terms with who you are and who you want to be.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Yours Truly<\/strong>\u00a0have always been a band to champion honesty but this EP takes it even further.\u00a0“I wear my heart on my sleeve. I’ve always been open with things like my health and what I’ve gone through, but I was very aware we live in a world where people use social media to show off idealised versions of their lives. We never want to pretend everything is perfect. This is my dirty laundry,”<\/em>\u00a0says\u00a0Delgado<\/strong>.\u00a0“It’s me saying I’m an anxious mess, I don’t know who I am but I’m trying to figure it out.”<\/em><\/p>\n

After wrapping up 2021 in fine form – sweeping up an\u00a0ARIA nomination\u00a0for Best Hard Rock\/heavy album for\u00a0Self Care<\/a><\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and supporting\u00a0Holding Absence\u00a0on their UK run,\u00a0Yours Truly<\/strong>\u00a0have hit the ground running for a huge 2022. With the band having\u00a0 stepped off the stage at\u00a0UNIFY,\u00a0finishing supporting Against The Current on their UK tour and\u00a0Delgado\u00a0<\/strong>having just supported Slumberjack’s\u00a0Like A Version<\/a>\u00a0set,\u00a0Yours Truly<\/strong>\u00a0are now geared to play a run of festivals in the remaining months of 2022, including appearances in the UK, Australia, Italy and Sweden.\n<\/p>\n
