SHAPESHIFTING<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/i>was co-produced by\u00a0Satriani\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0Jim Scott<\/b>\u00a0(Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Petty<\/b>\u00a0&\u00a0The Heartbreakers<\/b>) with longtime associate\u00a0John Cuniberti<\/b>\u00a0on board handling the mastering duties.\u00a0\u00a0Satriani<\/b>\u00a0enlisted a wide range of collaborators, both old and new, to help him bring the songs to life. Legendary drummer\u00a0Kenny Aronoff<\/b>\u00a0(John Fogerty), bassist\u00a0Chris Chaney<\/b>\u00a0(Jane\u2019s Addiction<\/b>) and keyboardist\u00a0Eric Caudieux<\/b>\u00a0were the core musicians on the new album with additional contributions coming from\u00a0Lisa Coleman<\/b>\u00a0(The Revolution<\/b>) and\u00a0Christopher Guest<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The retro feeling sounds of first single,\u00a0\u2018Nineteen Eighty\u2019\u00a0<\/i><\/b>(available today)\u00a0<\/i><\/b>finds\u00a0Satriani<\/b>\u00a0spiritually revisiting the time period when he was working with his first band, the\u00a0Squares<\/b>. The future guitar hero the world came to know less than a decade later, would have to wait. He recalls that in those early days, they\u00a0\u201cdialed back the guitar solos and histrionics to try to create a cooler new wave vibe.\u201d\u00a0<\/i>Decades removed from those goals, he was free to go forward and attempt to recapture what was on his mind in 1980.<\/p>\n

Staying true to the sounds of the time, he even used a vintage MXR EVH phaser.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve always been a huge fan of Eddie Van Halen,\u201d<\/i>\u00a0Satriani\u00a0<\/b>says.\u00a0\u201cIn my mind, he just crystallized that era. The late \u201870s and early \u201880s, he kind of saved rock guitar. So that\u2019s what I would have been doing.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

For two decades,\u00a0<\/b>the guitar virtuoso has traveled the world, playing to sold-out crowds as both a headliner and as founder of the all-star \u201cG3\u201d guitar extravaganza.\u00a0\u00a0Satriani\u2019s<\/b>\u00a0studio and live recordings have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide to date and of his many solo albums, two have gone\u00a0platinum<\/i>\u00a0and four others went\u00a0gold<\/i>, with 15 Grammy nominations between them.\u00a0 His side project,\u00a0Chickenfoot<\/b>, featuring former\u00a0Van Halen<\/b>\u00a0front man\u00a0Sammy Hagar<\/b>, former bassist\u00a0Michael Anthony<\/b>, and\u00a0Red Hot Chili Peppers\u2019\u00a0<\/b>drummer\u00a0Chad Smith\u00a0<\/b>saw their debut album certified gold and their second studio album debuted at #9.<\/p>\n
