There’s nothing more Australian than hot sun, warm waves and\u00a0Cold Chisel. The band’s classic songs like\u00a0Khe Sanh, Flame Trees, Bow River, My Baby, Cheap Wine, Saturday Night\u00a0and You Got Nothing I Want\u00a0have become the soundtrack to our summers.<\/p>\n

Since their legendary\u00a0Last Stand\u00a0way back in 1983,\u00a0Cold Chisel\u00a0has reformed for just four national tours, but they almost always played indoors and those gigs didn’t happen over the holidays.<\/p>\n

Now, for the first time ever, this legendary Australian band will be playing 14 very special outdoor shows in Australia and New Zealand\u00a0during summer. Between New Year’s Eve and the second weekend of February, they’ll do gigs on the beach, gigs by the river and gigs in the bush. You’ve never seen anything like it before. You’ll never see anything like it again.<\/p>\n

Pre-sale tickets will go on-sale on Wednesday 16 October at 2.00pm (local times) with\u00a0General Public on-sale from\u00a0Monday, 21 October at 11.00am\u00a0(local times) via the official ticket links\u00a0here.<\/p>\n

It’s called the\u00a0Blood Moon Tour 2020\u00a0– named after a rare lunar eclipse where the sun, earth and moon all briefly align before returning to their own orbits.<\/p>\n

“You might get to see a blood moon once in your life”,\u00a0explains the band’s main songwriter and piano player,\u00a0Don Walker.\u00a0“Apparently there’s going to be one just before dawn when we’re in Melbourne on this tour but we didn’t actually know that when we chose the name. Maybe it’s a sign.”<\/p>\n

Fittingly the tour will boast a series of line-ups that are as rare and memorable as a Blood Moon. In Sydney,\u00a0Cold Chisel\u00a0will be joined by the mighty\u00a0Hoodoo Gurus. Paul Kelly\u00a0will\u00a0be welcomed on four shows including\u00a0Tamworth\u00a0where he will be joined by country music icons\u00a0Kasey Chambers\u00a0and\u00a0Troy Cassar-Daley. Both WA shows will feature a “Best Of The West” line-up that includes hometown heroes like\u00a0Birds Of Tokyo, Jebediah\u00a0and\u00a0Gyroscope\u00a0while other guests to appear on at least one show include\u00a0The Teskey Brothers, Busby Marou\u00a0and\u00a0The Detonators. Beloved Kiwi band\u00a0The Mutton Birds\u00a0will reform just for the New Zealand gig while\u00a0Birds of Tokyo\u00a0will feature on seven different gigs and\u00a0Magic Dirt\u00a0on six. Every line-up is special.<\/p>\n

And the locations are all special too. They include\u00a0Glenelg Beach\u00a0in\u00a0Cold Chisel\u00a0and\u00a0Paul Kelly’s old hometown of\u00a0Adelaide; the huge\u00a0Mt Duneed Estate\u00a0off Victoria’s Surf Coast, the opening concert at\u00a0Bankwest Stadium\u00a0on the Parramatta River (with\u00a0Hoodoo Gurus) and New Year’s Eve down beside the ocean in\u00a0Fremantle.\u00a0Cold Chisel\u00a0will even return to Orange, nearly 40 years since their last gigs there, for the first ever\u00a0A Day On The Green\u00a0in\u00a0Orange.<\/p>\n

“We’ve only done four tours since the early 80’s so we need to make each of them count”,\u00a0explains the band’s frontman,\u00a0Jimmy Barnes.\u00a0“We knew that if we were going to get the band back together for another full tour it would have to be something really special. We wanted great line-ups and unusual places so that people would remember these gigs for a long, long time.”<\/p>\n

The band has announced that\u00a0Foodbank\u00a0will be supported in various ways throughout this tour including by way of special auction items and fundraising collections at each venue on the tour.<\/p>\n

“Last year Foodbank provided over 67 million meals to homeless people around Australia”,\u00a0explains\u00a0Ian Moss.\u00a0“They did that by making use of good food and produce that would have gone to waste otherwise. We wish there wasn’t so much demand for their services but we’re pleased to do our bit to help them out.”<\/p>\n

Since forming in Adelaide in 1973 and blasting onto the national scene in the late 70s,\u00a0Cold Chisel\u00a0has created a uniquely Australian fusion of rockabilly, roughhouse soul, and blues. Between 1978 and 1983 the original line-up of\u00a0Don Walker, Jim Barnes, Ian Moss\u00a0(guitar\/vocals),\u00a0Phil Small\u00a0(bass) and\u00a0Steve Prestwich\u00a0(drums) recorded five studio albums that became Australian classics. 1978’s self-titled debut and 1979’s\u00a0Breakfast At Sweethearts\u00a0initially received little support from mainstream media but eventually went gold based on nonstop touring. 1980’s\u00a0East\u00a0was their huge commercial breakthrough and 1982’s\u00a0Circus Animals\u00a0finally saw them top the charts. However by the time\u00a0Twentieth Century\u00a0was released in 1984 the band had already flamed out, making their unforgettable\u00a0Last Stand\u00a0in arenas around the country. In 1998\u00a0Cold Chisel\u00a0reformed briefly for a chart topping album and tour called\u00a0The Last Wave Of Summer. An ‘unplugged’ style run of dates called\u00a0Ringside\u00a0followed five years later, then in 2011 the group was working on a new studio album that became\u00a0No Plans\u00a0when\u00a0Steve Prestwich\u00a0sadly died from complications during surgery for a brain tumour. Eventually\u00a0Charley Drayton\u00a0agreed to step in to help complete what Steve began and he’s played drums with the band ever since, including on the record breaking\u00a0Light The Nitro Tour\u00a0and 2015’s platinum certified\u00a0The Perfect Crime.<\/p>\n

The band is currently putting the finishing touches to some more new music they recorded earlier this year with Charley and they plan to release at least some of it before the\u00a0Blood Moon Tour 2020. Further announcements will be made about that in the weeks or months ahead.<\/p>\n

Over the course of their career,\u00a0Cold Chisel\u00a0has sold almost 7 million albums across vinyl, cassette, CD, downloads and streaming. They’ve been inducted to the\u00a0ARIA Hall Of Fame\u00a0and received the\u00a0Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music. However their greatest achievements are their songs. It’s a body of work that has defined and echoed who we are. For over 40 years\u00a0Cold Chisel\u00a0has defied the odds, ignored the trends, and blazed their own trail. The band has endeared themselves to all sorts of Australians because their uncompromising attitude articulates our hopes, fears, alienation and humour, and because they are simply one of the most ferocious live rock ‘n’ roll outfits on earth.<\/p>\n
