\"\"<\/a>The year 2019 marks another auspicious occasion for The Angels, the 40th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of their third album\u00a0No Exit<\/i>. The album, which spawned classic hits such as the title track\u00a0No Exit\u00a0<\/i>and the still beloved show-stoppers\u00a0Shadow Boxer<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Mr Damage<\/i>, peaked at No. 8 in the charts. It was an apt follow-on from the band\u2019s seminal\u00a0Face To Face\u00a0<\/i>album, demonstrating to fans in 1979 that The Angels were a rock band here to stay.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fast forward four decades and the\u00a0No Exit<\/i>\u00a0album is still a fan favourite. As the anniversary approached for its big 4-0, it was a natural progression to take the songs out on the road and celebrate them in the best way The Angels know how, with a massive tour. It has become something of a tradition for the band to celebrate their albums this way, and rightly so, after all, these releases have made an indelible imprint on the Australian music psyche. They\u2019ve celebrated 40 years of their\u00a0Face To Face\u00a0<\/i>album in similar fashion \u2013 to sell-out shows \u2013 and the\u00a0No Exit, 40 Years On\u00a0<\/i>tour is just as highly anticipated.<\/span><\/p>\n

The special thing about the tour is that there are no supports \u2013 it is just The Angels, full on, recharged for the entire show. \u201cWe will be doing two sets over the whole evening, the first set will be the\u00a0No Exit\u00a0<\/i>album in its entirety and the second set is a mix of classic Angels songs and a few rarities,\u201d says John Brewster. \u201cThe albums we have made over the years take the audience on a journey, sequence was always important.No Exit\u00a0<\/i>takes us on a journey as well, just like the\u00a0Face To Face\u00a0<\/i>album, when we play that same sequence. The second set gives us a chance to explore another journey.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

No Exit\u00a0<\/i>was recorded under the revered Alberts label. John says the memories of recording the 1979 release were some of the most memorable of their career. \u201cWriting many of the songs \u2013\u00a0Save Me, No Exit, Waiting For The World, Skid Row,\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0Dawn Is Breaking \u2013\u00a0<\/i>with Rick in Studio Three, using the drum loop of George Young\u2019s drums, and turning the speed up or down to suit the new idea [was great],\u201d he says. \u201cGeorge Young singing the word \u2018baby\u2019 on\u00a0Out Of The Blue<\/i>\u2026 he could make a difference with just one word or note. The recording sessions with the band were amazing and exciting!\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For Rick Brewster, the memories of recording\u00a0No Exit\u00a0<\/i>are just as fresh as if they were in the Alberts studios last week. \u201cI remember writing our longest lyric,\u00a0Dawn Is Breaking<\/i>, continuing the bleak themes ofOutcast\u00a0<\/i>from the previous album,\u201d says Rick. \u201c[There was] the excitement of meeting\u00a0Damage\u00a0<\/i>backstage after a gig at the Comb & Cutter, which kept me up till dawn writing\u00a0Mr Damage\u00a0<\/i>and Chris\u2019 wonderful bass solo in\u00a0No Exit,\u00a0<\/i>[as well as] our first use of organ in\u00a0Dawn Is Breaking\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0Out Of The Blue<\/i>. John\u2019s and my \u2018panning\u2019 riff in\u00a0Save Me\u00a0<\/i>and the feeling of confidence that after the success of\u00a0Face To Face,\u00a0<\/i>we had succeeded in recording a fitting follow-up album.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The songs from\u00a0No Exit\u00a0<\/i>have stood the test of time and still resonate with audiences today. It is this inherent excitement from the album that The Angels translate into their live show. \u201cGreat rock n roll never dies,\u201d says John. \u201cIt always sounds fresh, our lyrics are interesting and these songs just fly! They move young and old, us in the band too!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Angels are taking\u00a0No Exit\u00a0<\/i>on the road in 2019, paying homage to their third album release 40 Years On. The two-hour show features two sets, the complete album\u00a0No Exit\u00a0<\/i>and all The Angels classics, plus a few rarities.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n
