Chugg Entertainment and Bluesfest Touring are pleased to announce that\u00a0ROGER DALTREY<\/strong>, the iconic lead singer of\u00a0The Who<\/strong>,will perform\u00a0The Who<\/strong>\u2019s legendary rock operaTOMMY<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0from start to finish. (The Who never actually played the complete Tommy).Daltrey premiered the show at The Royal Albert Hall in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust on March 25th and has since toured it throughout the UK in the summer and\u00a0 has just wound up a tour of the US and Canada.<\/p>\n

The tour kicks off in\u00a0Byron Bay<\/strong>\u00a0with a performance at\u00a0Bluesfest<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0Monday 9 April<\/strong>, before heading south to\u00a0Sydney<\/strong>\u00a0with a show at the\u00a0Enmore Theatre<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0Tuesday 12 April<\/strong>, thenCanberra\u2019s Royal Theatre<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0Sunday 15 April<\/strong>, before heading to\u00a0Plenary Hall<\/strong>\u00a0inMelbourne<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0Monday 16 April<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Employing striking visuals to accompany the music, every show will be an unforgettable concert experience for lifelong fans and newcomers alike, who will be treated not only to the full majesty of\u00a0TOMMY<\/span><\/strong>, but also to a variety of\u00a0Who Classics and more.<\/strong><\/p>\n

TOMMY<\/strong>\u00a0is not only one of the most acclaimed and defining works of the rock era, it is an enduring album that resonates on radio to this day where it has found multi-generational appeal. Inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998, the 20 million-selling double album also spawned a successful 1975 film of the same name–with\u00a0DALTREY<\/strong>\u00a0playing the title role–which re-underlined its place in the cultural firmament.<\/p>\n

Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductee DALTREY<\/strong>\u00a0is pulling out all the stops with a full backing band that will bring the rock opera\u2019s wide-ranging sounds and textures to life vibrantly on stage every evening. Joining\u00a0DALTREY\u00a0<\/strong>will be Frank Simes (guitar), Scott Deavours (drums), Jon Button(Bass), Loren Gold (Keyboards) and also on guitar will beSIMON TOWNSHEND<\/span><\/strong>,younger brother of\u00a0The Who\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0guitarist\u00a0PETE TOWNSHEND.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Commenting on the tour, Pete Townshend says\u00a0”Great to see Roger performing TOMMY with his band in 2012. I will be there in spirit and Roger has my complete and most loving support. Roger is touring his unique concert version of TOMMY using his faithful presentation of the original work as the backbone for a set of\u00a0 wider material. Throughout this tour, songs such as\u00a0\u201cPinball Wizard,\u201d\u201cThe Acid Queen,\u201d\u201cI\u2019m Free,\u201d\u201dSee Me, Feel Me\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re Not Gonna Take It\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0promise to transport attendees into the world of this classic album with shuddering intensity and poetic power.<\/p>\n

A 1989 tour by\u00a0The Who<\/strong>\u00a0saw them reprise\u00a0TOMMY<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0live. The upcoming\u00a0DALTREY<\/strong>\u00a0tour will differ in that all of the album\u2019s songs will be played(with the exception of Underture). WhenDALTREY\u00a0<\/strong>and his band performed\u00a0TOMMY<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0March 2011<\/strong>\u00a0at a sell out concert at\u00a0London<\/strong>\u2019sRoyal Albert Hall<\/strong>, The\u00a0Independent\u00a0<\/strong>called\u00a0 the show\u00a0\u201ca faithful reading…The stand-outs, \u2018I’m Free,\u2019 and \u2018See Me, Feel Me\u2019 and the anthemic climax of \u2018We’re Not Gonna Take It\u2019 are rousing.\u201d<\/em>Of his US tour dates the Boston Globe said\u201c\u2026 it was\u2026heartening to hear Daltrey\u2026 sing his history with grizzled power and heart-on-sleeve sincerity.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Roger describes the show and visuals as ”A Tommy Show for today’s audience from a different perspective.”<\/p>\n
