Colors<\/em>\u00a0is Beck\u2019s first full length offering of new material since 2014\u2019s\u00a0Morning Phase<\/em>\u00a0took Album of the Year top honors at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, as well as Best Rock Album and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical) category. In addition to the newly unveiled \u201cDear Life,\u201d\u00a0Colors<\/em>\u00a0includes both Beck singles that preceded it: a new mix of the psych-dance summer jam \u201cDreams\u201d that NPR hailed as “urgently contemporary and irresistibly vintage<\/em>\u201d as it gave Beck his second #1 single at AAA radio (the first being\u00a0Morning Phase<\/em>\u2019s \u201cBlue Moon\u201d), and the retro-futuristic earworm and\u00a0USA Today<\/em>\u00a0Song of the Week \u201cWow\u201d that had\u00a0Stereogum<\/em>\u00a0praising its “big, sweet incandescent hook<\/em>\u201d and plainly stating “It\u2019s a great song!<\/em>\u201d while\u00a0Esquire<\/em>\u00a0rejoiced “All hail the return of Party Beck.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

Colors<\/em>\u00a0was produced by Greg Kurstin and Beck, with the exception of \u201cWow” produced by Beck and Cole M.G.N., and \u201cFix Me” produced by Beck. The album was mixed by Serban Ghenea, except \u201cDreams\u201d and “Up All Night,\u201d which were mixed by Greg Kurstin and Beck.<\/p>\n

At 47, the Californian hippie hip-hop rock hipster \u2014 who\u2019s already due back Sept. 8 opening for U2 at U.S. Bank Stadium \u2014 looked as spry, slender and elfin as he did back in 2008\u2026 he and his seven-piece band walloped the audience with an almost nonstop string of funky, rowdy fan favorites\u2026 \u00a0the harmonies soared\u2026 spirited and irresistible.<\/em>\u201d\u2014Minneapolis Star Tribune<\/em><\/p>\n

“Beck has a style and a sound that could suit any era and fit any occasion\u2026 He playfully eludes easy categorization, and remains one of the most distinctive songwriters of the modern era\u2026 On Thursday night at a sold-out Palace Theatre, all of Beck\u2019s many creative sides were on full display, as he and his cracking seven-piece backing band delivered a lively 95-minute set that mixed his big radio hits in with tender, unguarded moments\u2026 he seemed rejuvenated, enjoying himself as much as he did during his alt-outsider early days.
