Indiana-born\u00a0John Mellencamp<\/strong>\u00a0burst on to the Australian scene in 1979 with his first hit,\u00a0I Need a Lover<\/em>.His enduring success has continued throughout 40 years of playing and touring andMellencamp<\/strong>\u00a0is well known to Aussie audiences for songs, such as\u00a0Jack & Diane, Paper in Fire<\/em>,Small Town<\/em>,\u00a0Cherry Bomb<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0R.O.C.K in the USA<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Indeed, Australia has played an important role in\u00a0Mellencamp\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0success, with\u00a0seven top 20 hits<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a010 top 20 albums\u00a0<\/strong>climbing the local charts. He has sold more than\u00a01.5 million albums<\/strong>\u00a0in Australia and his single\u00a0I Need A Lover<\/em>\u00a0was\u00a0top five<\/strong>\u00a0in the local charts \u2013 the best result in the world \u2013 a fact he acknowledged in his last tour Down Under in 2008.<\/p>\n

Two albums,\u00a0Scarecrow<\/em>\u00a0(1985) and\u00a0Lonesome Jubilee<\/em>\u00a0(1987), have gone\u00a0five-times platinum<\/strong>\u00a0in Australia, while\u00a0The Best That I Could Do: 1978-1988<\/em>\u00a0is\u00a0triple platinum.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mellencamp also created the benefit concert\u00a0Farm Aid<\/strong>, with fellow music icons Willie Nelson and Neil Young. The fundraiser for American farmers recently celebrated its 30th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary.<\/p>\n

Mellencamp<\/strong>\u00a0recently completed the 80-date\u00a0Plain Spoken tour<\/strong>\u00a0of North America, earning rave reviews for what was described as \u201cone of the most electrifying shows in the business\u201d, blending a catalogue of powerful anthems and popular hits.<\/p>\n

As one Australian reviewer summed it up in 2008: \u201cMellencamp\u2019s songs are iconic enough to do all the talking, and performing, for him\u201d. His tour was a \u201cperfectly selected, weighted and delivered set from an undeniable rock legend\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mellencamp\u00a0<\/strong>will be supported by Alaskan singer-songwriter\u00a0Jewel<\/strong>, performing songs from her extensive catalogue and latest release\u00a0Picking Up the Pieces<\/em>. Since her debut\u00a0Pieces of You<\/em>\u00a0in 1995 which featured the massive hit\u00a0Who Will Save your Soul<\/em>, Jewel has established herself as one of the most successful musicians of her generation with powerful mentors including Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard and Neil Young. A storyteller at heart, Jewel also has written her memoir,Never Broken<\/em>, authored two children\u2019s books, and a pair of successful children\u2019s albums.<\/p>\n

Mellencamp<\/strong>\u00a0will also be joined by country singer and songwriter\u00a0Carlene Carter.<\/strong>\u00a0Daughter of country music legends June Carter Cash and Carl Smith,\u00a0Carter\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0career took off with the albumI fell in Love\u00a0<\/em>in 1990. During her career,\u00a0Carter<\/strong>\u00a0has recorded twelve albums and released more than twenty singles, with 3 peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. \u00a0Her latest album titled\u00a0Carter Girl<\/em>\u00a0was released by Rounder Records in 2014<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
