Arguably one of the most distinctive voices in rock music as the front man of Pearl Jam now for over 20 years, Eddie Vedder has once again stepped away from the band to release a solo album, his first being the ‘Into The Wild’ soundtrack in 2007. This one though is somewhat different and sees Eddie give us an album of songs performed entirely on ukulele. Yeah, interesting huh… I mean the title of the album gives that away but let’s discuss.<\/p>\n

I have to admit, I didn’t think I’d like this but it’s in fact the exact opposite. This is such a diverse concept that it has me hooked, the songs are simple, innocent and at times haunting. Vedder I feel is close to the only artist that could pull something like this off though, I mean I couldn’t even think of anyone else in the music industry that would suit this so kudos to Vedder in taking a risk on something like this. There are 16 tracks on the album, majority written by Vedder besides six tracks that are covers taken from as far back as the late 1920’s and are perfectly suited for the ukulele and this project.\u00a0 \"\"<\/p>\n

Glen Hansard from The Swell Season guests on ‘Sleepless Nights’ and puts his distinctive style on to the song as he takes lead vocals with Vedder with some great harmonies, and folk rock singer Chan Marshall joins Vedder on ‘Tonight You Belong To Me’ which is a beautiful duet.\u00a0 The album ends with a cover of ‘Dream A Little Dream’ and is a perfect way to finish this album.<\/p>\n

I really enjoyed this one, it’s perfect background music for a summers day as you sit and just take in the world. I recommend this even if you’ve never been a fan of Eddie Vedder, as this is a perfect place to try something different.<\/p>\n
