A genuine new superstar of Blues &amp; Roots music &#8211; Hozier, Celtic legends The Waterboys, New Zealand&#8217;s all-star music collective Fly My Pretties on their first ever Australian festival appearances, lots of great new Blues artists, and to top it off &#8211; Country Music&#8217;s hottest new artist, Hunter Hayes.<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>As I am writing, I note that Hozier&#8217;s platinum selling single &#8216;Take Me To Church&#8217;, is No 2. on the Australian and New Zealand charts, No. 3 in the US Billboard charts and has gone back into the Top 10 this week in the BBC singles chart. &#8216;Take Me To Church&#8217; is the most viral song on Spotify in the past 12 months with over 87,000,000 streams and 47,000,000 views of the video on Youtube. &#8216;Take Me To Church&#8217; is nominated for \u2018Song of the Year&#8217;, at the next Grammy Awards in February. The video for &#8216;Take Me To Church&#8217; portrays a homophobic backlash against a young gay couple in Russia who flee an angry mob and is a protest against President Putin signing into law a &#8216;discriminatory&#8217; ban on the spread of gay &#8216;propaganda&#8217;. Hozier says the song is a metaphor with him, comparing his love of a fellow human being to religion and its constraints. The song is about humanity and asserting yourself through an act of love.<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>Hozier is definitely NOT your everyday hit single musician. He hails from Bray, County Wicklow in Ireland, his father is a Blues musician and he is undoubtedly the most important Roots musician to emerge from Ireland in decades.The album Hozier is top 10 in the US, UK &amp; Australia, and has returned Roots music styles to the top of the charts where it belongs. I am so excited to be bringing to Bluesfest an artist I believe is truly important, and who is fast becoming someone who the music world will look to, both now and in the future for truly inspiring music.<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>To be presenting Hozier, Paolo Nutini AND Ben Howard at Bluesfest 2015 means we will have on our stages, truly the best emerging artist from Ireland, Scotland AND the UK right now at the one festival \u2013 it\u2019s simply breathtaking.<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>The Waterboys, led by the inimitable Mike Scott have produced an eclectic mix of Rock N\u2019 Roll and Irish Folk Music now for the past 30 years and will be making their first Bluesfest appearance. Their song, &#8216;The Whole of the Moon&#8217;, is simply one of the greatest songs ever written, a classic which has gone to the top of the UK charts twice. The Waterboys new album released\u00a0 in January 2015, Modern Blues,\u00a0 was recorded in Nashville and contains a number of R&amp;B tracks as well as the more usual Waterboys fare.<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>Are Fly My Pretties a New Zealand Supergroup? Well, they certainly are a group of Super Musicians. Led by The Black Seeds\u2019 Barnaby Weir and formed in 2004, they are a collective, generally featuring members of The Black Seeds, Fat Freddy&#8217;s Drop and Phoenix Foundation.\u00a0 Their albums have gone to No 1. in New Zealand and their sell-out tour of theatres in their home country continues through the current &#8216;Homeland Tour\u2019, promoting their new CD release &#8216;Homeland&#8217;. Fly My Pretties are a Kiwi institution and will be performing their debut festival performances in Australia\u2026stay tuned for the announcement of who is going to be in this first ever Bluesfest edition of FMP&#8217;s.<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>Hunter Hayes is a phenomenon, he is the youngest artist to EVER top the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and is the youngest artist to EVER be nominated for 3 Grammy Awards at the same Grammy Awards in 2012. He won the Country Music Association award for Best New Artist of 2012, has sold well over 4 million recordings of his albums and smash single &#8216;Wanted&#8217;,\u00a0 is a genuine arena headliner in the US, plays 30 different types of instruments, is coming to Australia for the first time AND is only 23 years old. Hunter, who is from Breaux Bridge Louisiana is the real deal, a genuine Cajun prodigy AND&#8230;.to top it all off,\u00a0 Hunter just won the People\u2019s Choice Awards last week &#8211; Best Male Country Music Artist of 2014.<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>We certainly have the Blues covered in this announcement with Vasti Jackson and Super Chikan filling out our Music Maker group for 2015. He is known for sweat-drenched, soul-ripping live performances marked by some of the most stunning and innovative guitar playing today. Having collaborated with some of the biggest names in entertainment including BB King, Harry Connick Jr., and even Martin Scorsese, Vasti moves effortlessly from Blues, Soul, Jazz, Funk, Gospel, Pop, and beyond. Johnson combined discarded guitar parts with old army gas cans, creating \u201cChikantars,\u201d fully playable guitars that he now plays at many of his performances, adding to the unique live experience.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Said to be Morgan Freeman&#8217;s favourite Blues musician, his is the resident band at Morgan&#8217;s club in Clarksdale Mississippi, \u2018<em>Ground Zero\u2019<\/em>, and toured supporting\u00a0actor and Blues musician Steven Segal&#8217;s band Thunderbox. Delta-born and strongly connected to the south, he is a recipient of an Artist Fellowship from the Mississippi Arts Commission and has received many accolades for both his music and art including Mississippi\u2019s Governors Award for Excellence in the Arts, Best Blues Album and Best Debut Album at the Living Blues Magazine Awards (1998),\u00a0Best Traditional Blues Album Award at the Blues Music Awards (2010),\u00a0he was a featured performer for the Library of Congress&#8217;s &#8220;Homegrown&#8221; series and also performed at the Kennedy Centre as part of their Millennium Stage series.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Please note: Due to ill health and visa difficulties, Little Freddie King and Guitar slim Jr. are unfortunately unable to join us this year, as we originally announced. After bursting onto the Australian live scene in 1986 as \u2018Johnny Diesel &amp; The Injectors\u2019 and a\u00a0 subsequent solo career from 1991, he is renowned as one Australia\u2019s best and hardest working rock acts.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>With a career spanning more than 25 years, over 35 singles, 13 albums, 6 ARIA awards and record sales edging 1 million, Diesel is a journeyman of music.
