In their 13 years as a band, they\u2019ve weathered their ups and downs without changing who they are or their sound. The four rock stalwarts mark their return with a new label and brand new album\u00a0\u2018CULT<\/em><\/strong>\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0to be released on\u00a0February 21, 2014<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>in\u00a0Australia\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0New Zealand\u00a0<\/strong>via\u00a0<\/strong>Hopeless\/Unified<\/strong>.\u00a0Bayside fans can pre-order \u2018CULT\u2019<\/em>\u00a0for only $9.99 on\u00a0<\/strong>iTunes<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0for a limited time between Jan 17-Jan 23<\/strong>\u00a0– the digital album will be out on February 18, 2014.<\/p>\n

With their trademark sound intact and embracing their past as strongly as their future, \u2018CULT\u2019<\/em>\u00a0is the sound of a band re-energised and raring to go. Borne from an emotionally tumultuous year that saw both extremes of tragedy and joy, \u2018CULT\u2019\u00a0<\/em>is a very personal record. \u201cThe year that we spent making this record was both the most difficult and most exciting time of my life,\u201d Anthony recalls. \u201cI lost my grandfather, stepfather and stepbrother in a four month span during the making of this record. As a counterbalance, I also got married, had my first child, and built my first home. The whole year was an example of how hard and wonderful life can be, and how quickly your world can change.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the events that unfolded in their personal lives could have tinted the album with a melancholic pall, \u2018CULT\u2019<\/em>\u00a0is anything but melancholic (\u201cthe record just flowed that way. We weren’t in a very mellow mood I guess\u201d)\u2026 and their hard work and intense labor shows. From the anthemic opening track\u00a0\u201cBig Cheese\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0to the seething first single\u00a0\u201cPigsty\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0to the introspective\u00a0\u201cSomething\u2019s Wrong\u201d<\/strong>, \u2018CULT\u2019\u00a0<\/em>shows the band at their ultimate best. Clocking in at a frenetic and breakneck punk pace, the album sears with\u00a0Jack O\u2019Shea<\/strong>\u2019s blistering guitar work,\u00a0Nick Ghanbarian<\/strong>\u2019s thumping bass lines, and\u00a0Chris Guglielmo<\/strong>\u2019s muscular drumming, while anchored by Anthony\u2019s unique vocals and rhythm guitar. \u201cWe worked incredibly hard on this record,\u201d he explains. \u201cWe wrote and re-wrote songs over and over. Jack was re-writing solos three and four times. I was fine tuning lyrics in the vocal booth making sure they were perfect. All four of us lost a lot of sleep over every decision that we made on this record. This is really our opus. We labored over this record more than ever before.<\/p>\n

Formed in 2000 in Queens, NY, Bayside has previously released five studio albums (2004\u2019s\u00a0Sirens and Condolences<\/em>, 2005\u2019s\u00a0Bayside<\/em>, 2007\u2019s\u00a0The Walking Wounded<\/em>, 2008\u2019s\u00a0Shudder<\/em>, 2011\u2019s\u00a0Killing Time<\/em>) and numerous EPs and a live album (2008\u2019s\u00a0Live at the Bayside Social Club<\/em>). The band has toured the world and played on multiple\u00a0Vans Warped Tours<\/em>. With the release of \u2018CULT\u2019<\/em>, the breadth of their history seems to have culminated in this sixth studio album. \u201cCULT<\/em>, in a way, is the Bayside discography without using any old songs,\u201d he says rather elliptically. \u201cTo me, it is every characteristic of every Bayside record all mashed into one. It is the earnestness of Sirens, the riskiness and creativity of our self titled record and Walking Wounded, the quirkiness of\u00a0Shudder\u00a0<\/em>and the experienced solid songwriting and aggression of\u00a0Killing Time<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

All in all, the band has never lost sight of why they are a band. \u201cI think that Bayside is exactly what Bayside is supposed to be,\u201d Anthony explains. \u201cFor years, we haven’t tried to reinvent ourselves or define ourselves. All that we try to do is get better at being Bayside.\u201d<\/p>\n
