We are a hard rock band with the discipline of metal, but the accessibility factor of rock.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whilst you are a new band, the members of Moments Apart are no strangers to the Melbourne rock scene. \u00a0Can you introduce each member of the band and give us a rock \u2018n\u2019 roll fact or myth about each?<br \/>\n<\/strong>I don\u2019t know how \u2018rock\u2019n\u2019roll\u2019 these are, but here goes! Rally the troops!<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/maytherockbewithyou.com\/mtrbwy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/69096_532860310073499_1111770430_n1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-13232\" title=\"69096_532860310073499_1111770430_n\" src=\"http:\/\/maytherockbewithyou.com\/mtrbwy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/69096_532860310073499_1111770430_n1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maytherockbewithyou.com\/mtrbwy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/69096_532860310073499_1111770430_n1.jpg 320w, https:\/\/maytherockbewithyou.com\/mtrbwy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/69096_532860310073499_1111770430_n1-295x300.jpg 295w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/a>What do you feel are the key &#8220;ingredients&#8221; that need to feature in a Moments Apart song?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Basically it starts with a chorus. \u00a0Without a quality chorus you have nothing. Often, our choruses are written before anything else and the rest of the song is crafted around that. \u00a0Our guitars must be massive and chunky, but also lush and layered. \u00a0We like to make creative use of two guitars, so Kyle and I rarely play the same part. \u00a0There\u2019s so much you can do with that and we like to exploit it fully. We don\u2019t hold back with layers and polish- the epicness is a huge part of our sound, so each song needs to feel like an experience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When it comes to songwriting, is there a typical process within the band &#8211; does it start from one person, or is it something that is a shared thing?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Usually it starts with myself, a guitar and pro-tools. \u00a0I\u2019ll throw together a basic idea, often just a verse and chorus and send it to the other guys. \u00a0If everyone likes it and thinks there\u2019s potential, I get together with Looch and we nut out a full song structure. \u00a0Then we go back and demo it fully with everyone adding their parts and ideas. \u00a0When the demo is complete, we sit on it for a while, listen back, let it sink in and marinate. \u00a0If we\u2019re still psyched about it after a few weeks, we keep it. \u00a0If it doesn\u2019t pass the test of time, it gets chopped!<\/p>\n<p><strong>How varied would you say are the musical influences of band member to band member?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Quite different, however we all seem to share common ground also \u2013 mostly the classic bands we grew up on; eg. Metallica, Van Halen and some more recent bands such as Stone Sour and Alter Bridge. \u00a0Danny is one of the biggest Kiss fans you\u2019ll ever meet. \u00a0Looch is really into Dream Theater and progressive metal; Kyle loves a huge variety of guitarists from Malmsteen to Joe Bonamassa and everything in between. \u00a0Myself, I \u2018m quite all over the place. One minute it\u2019s Jeff Buckley, nek minnit, Cannibal Corpse!<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you were a person in the crowd at one of your gigs, what five words would you walk away using to describe the performance you just witnessed?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Powerful. Epic. Catchy. Meaningful. Twin-guitar-attack (hehe).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can you remember the life defining sight, sound, touch and\/or smell whilst growing up that made you think being a \u201crock star\u201d was the path you wanted to tread?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Sure. It was seeing Alice Cooper\u2019s <em>Poison<\/em> video on Rage as a 5 year old. \u00a0I was forever changed by the long hair, loud guitars and catchiness! \u00a0I still think that\u2019s one of the best examples of pop-metal songwriting I\u2019ve ever heard in my life \u2013 the way the chords move and the harmonies swell, it\u2019s so well-crafted and arranged. \u00a0That particular song had such a profound influence on me and opened the floodgates of hard rock!<\/p>\n<p><strong>For the benefit of those reading this in galaxies far, far, away, how would you describe the current music scene in Melbourne\/Australia and Moments Apart&#8217;s place within it?<br \/>\n<\/strong>There are some excellent bands out there, but Australia is such a small place. Unfortunately we\u2019re not blessed with the dense population of Europe, Asia or the USA, so it\u2019s really hard to get people to hear your stuff and come to live shows. \u00a0I try not to worry too much about it though \u2013 we love what we do and try to focus on that, rather than get down about how hard it is to \u201cmake it.\u201d We only care about writing the best possible songs and playing them for whoever is kind enough to spare their time to listen, or come to a show. \u00a0Fitting in with a scene is not something I\u2019ve given any thought to, we just wanna play.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s a chance to gaze into your crystal ball, over the next 12 months, Moments Apart will have:<br \/>\n<\/strong>1. A lot more gig experience under our belts.<br \/>\n2. A $hitload of fun!<br \/>\n3.
