The digital-only\u00a0release\u00a0Weapon of Choice<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0reveals\u00a0the songs at a stage of development\u00a0that will be of interest to\u00a0The Cult<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0fans and\u00a0followers.\u00a0Weapon of Choice<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is\u00a0a document of a work in progress and offers a unique opportunity to hear\u00a0The\u00a0Cult<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0process. The material has\u00a0not been previously released, and\u00a0will be available exclusively on iTunes for two months\u00a0only beginning Friday\u00a0October\u00a019, 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n

“These\u00a0songs were turned over and over, forged in long rehearsals and writing\u00a0sessions, and emanated from challenges both personal and professional,\u201d<\/em> said\u00a0lead vocalist\u00a0Ian Astbury<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0dynamic ten tracks that comprise\u00a0Weapon\u00a0of Choice<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0were recorded\u00a0when\u00a0The Cult<\/strong>\u00a0returned to the studio in 2011 with\u00a0producer\u00a0Chris Goss. The songs were conceived in New York, Los\u00a0Angeles, the California desert and the\u00a0band\u2019s Witch Mountain studio.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We put our guts into this; Goss was able to\u00a0create an environment where the songs were born through playing and turning\u00a0over lyrics, through hard work and intense sessions,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>continues\u00a0Astbury<\/strong>.\u00a0\u201cThese\u00a0songs have an integrity\u00a0and rawness of their own. In many ways it’s a different\u00a0album to the one we released and reveals the foundations of Choice of Weapon.\u00a0We were able to close the doors and begin to explore spaces we had not been in\u00a0for a\u00a0while.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Now\u00a0The\u00a0Cult<\/strong>\u00a0has revisited the Chris Goss material to unveil the creative process\u00a0and foundation behind\u00a0Choice of Weapon<\/em>.\u00a0Followers of\u00a0The Cult<\/strong>\u00a0can keep up with interactive countdowns leading up\u00a0to the release and take down\u00a0of\u00a0Weapon\u00a0of Choice<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0on the band\u2019s\u00a0website and social media properties.<\/span><\/p>\n
