\"\"<\/a>Muse is one of those bands that are hard to categorise.\u00a0 Simple as that and you know they are\u2026 are they rock?\u00a0 Are they opera?\u00a0 Are they electro? \u00a0Yeah, I know right?\u00a0 So I\u2019m calling Muse a new genre of music called Electrockera.\u00a0 Here was have \u2018The 2nd<\/sup> Law\u2019 which is the their sixth as a band, each previous have been something kinda special, so let\u2019s see if we can add \u2018The 2nd<\/sup> Law\u2019 to that list\u2026<\/p>\n

From the opening heavy riff of \u2018Supremacy\u2019 which evolves in to this song of \u2018epic\u2019 proportions with more parts than the model plane I got when I was 10 that I never finished it\u2019s then I start to wonder if this album will in fact run for three hours\u2026 I\u2019m hoping not as I have stuff to do this afternoon, but let\u2019s see how it plays out.\u00a0 I like the way the album has started and I\u2019m hoping that continues, but as first single \u2018Madness\u2019 begins; I remember that I\u2019d heard this and was on the fence about it, am I still?\u00a0 Well, after listening to it again and putting it in to the context of the album, I\u2019ve kind of fallen off the fence on to the side of liking it, not loving it, but it\u2019s like I\u2019ve caught my jeans on a nail hanging from the fence and I\u2019m hanging there, not quite on the ground yet.\u00a0 Enough fence sitting analogies, you get where I\u2019m going with this\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2018Panic Station\u2019 is a nice little dance almost pop track that I can hear will be big in those clubs that I don\u2019t go to.\u00a0 Don\u2019t shoot me for this and I\u2019m not comparing at all, but \u2018Survival\u2019 has somewhat of a Queen feel to it and I like it, the operatic backing vocals throughout the verses and the song are a great touch as Matthew Bellamy shows off some guitar skills ripping through the song like a wet piece of paper.\u00a0 What amazes me about Muse is that they are a three piece and can make this kind of sonic sounding album, and it\u2019s honestly like nothing I\u2019ve heard since the\u2026 last Muse album? Here\u2019s another dance type rocker in \u2018Follow Me\u2019 and excuse me while I get the glow sticks out, the problem is, I really like this track as the beat is underlined by the band, with guitars and drums and bass just killing it.\u00a0 Stop confusing me Muse!<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s see what \u2018Animals\u2019 is like\u2026 well it took me 2:39 to get in to it, as that\u2019s when the guitar kicked in and the two minute musical onslaught begins, a lot of talent in this band, I tell ya what!\u00a0 \u2018Explorers\u2019 slows it right down, but I\u2019m sure that\u2019ll change shortly, as most of these unpredictable tracks have also done, but wait\u2026 it hasn\u2019t done anything drastic\u2026 interesting and I\u2019m somewhat disappointed by that ha ha. Time for the \u2018Big Freeze\u2019 and it\u2019s fading in, so I already like it\u2026 wow, this sounds like a U2 song, just on first listen that is, but that\u2019s good as it\u2019s old school U2, not that new stuff they do now.\u00a0 I dig this track, in fact it\u2019s probably my favourite on the album at this point.\u00a0 It has this great groove and tone to it, so yeah, it\u2019s hooked me.<\/p>\n

With only four tracks left, so around an hour to go, and with an impressive two hrs previous (kidding), I\u2019m hoping the album finishes up with some stand outs. \u2018Save Me\u2019 is a ballad of sorts and as soon as I typed that it became no longer so much of a ballad ha ha, you guys\u2026 great track but now we have \u2018Liquid State\u2019 and this is rockin\u2019 and the heaviest track on it.\u00a0 The riff is powerful and the rhythm is thumping, excellent work fellas.\u00a0 Holy shit\u2026 what is this? \u2018The 2nd<\/sup> Law: Unsustainable\u2019 besides the spoken parts of a woman\u2019s voice throughout the song, I\u2019m going to try and explain this song and how it sounds.\u00a0 OK, so there\u2019s this robot and it has invented a new industrial style instrument, yet it also wants to be the singer in the band but is only programmed to say \u2018Unsustainable\u2019 and does it so it would scare the shit out of you if you heard it in a dark alley way.\u00a0 That\u2019s what this song is and it was fucking brilliant.\u00a0 To finish \u2018The 2nd<\/sup> Law\u2019 we have \u2018The 2nd<\/sup> Law: Isolated System\u2019 which starts of as a piano driven piece of music, almost a perfect outro and a calming sense from the crazy ass robot that tried to kill us in the last song, but it reaches its peak and fades out, thus ending an album that was confusing and amazing.\u00a0 I guess that\u2019s Muse!<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no denying at all that Muse are one of the most innovative and in fact best live bands out there at the moment, and it\u2019ll be interesting to see how these new songs transcribe to their show.\u00a0 One thing\u2019s for sure, I\u2019ll be there watching to find out\u2026<\/p>\n
