Seattle\u2019s\u00a0Soundgarden<\/strong>\u00a0will release\u00a0King Animal <\/em><\/strong>on November 12th<\/sup> 2012,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>the band\u2019s first new studio album in over 15 years. King Animal <\/em><\/strong>will be released on Vertigo Records, <\/strong>an imprint of the UK\u2019s Mercury Music Group, <\/strong>home to Metallica, Black Sabbath and The Killers. The album\u2019s first single,\u00a0\u201cBeen Away Too Long\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0will be available via digital retailers on\u00a0September 27th<\/sup><\/strong>. The band co-produced their sixth studio album with longtime Soundgarden friend and producer\u00a0Adam Kasper<\/strong>\u00a0(Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Pearl Jam) and recorded at Studio X in Seattle.\u00a0King Animal<\/em>\u00a0was mixed by\u00a0Joe Barresi<\/strong>\u00a0(The Melvins, Queens of the Stone Age, Weezer) in Pasadena, California.<\/p>\n

With two\u00a0GRAMMY \u00ae\u00a0<\/em>award wins,\u00a0seven overall nominations and over 21 million records sold worldwide, Soundgarden redefined rock music for a whole generation and had a revolutionary impact on the course of musical history. At the dawn of 2010, the band, Chris Cornell, Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil and Ben Shepherd, announced a new beginning. In the last three years since Soundgarden has reunited, they released their first retrospective,\u00a0Telephantasm<\/em>,\u00a0which was certified platinum,\u00a0their first live album,\u00a0Live on I-5,<\/em>\u00a0penned the end title song, \u201cLive to Rise,\u201d for the feature film\u00a0The Avengers<\/em>\u00a0which went to No.1 on Modern and Active Rock radio, and headlined sold-out shows and festivals around the world including Hard Rock Calling at Hyde Park, London in July.\u00a0<\/em>Now, comes the band\u2019s first collection of new songs since the 1990’s.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The writing and recording of the album was a true collaborative effort.\u00a0Riotous album opener and first single \u201cBeen Away Too Long<\/strong>\u201d finds Soundgarden back at it with a double-edged blast of homecoming celebration and urban angst.\u00a0King Animal<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0can be explosive, as in \u201cBlood On The Valley Floor,<\/strong>\u201d nightmarish (\u201cWorse Dreams<\/strong>\u201d) or wistful (\u201cHalfway There<\/strong>\u201d), leading us through changing sonic landscapes that can embrace both the jazz inflections of \u201cBlack Saturday<\/strong>\u201d and the feral rocker \u201cAttrition<\/strong>,\u201d with compelling lyrics by bassist Ben Shepherd. The subject matter is broad – Kim Thayil\u2019s lyrics for \u201cNon-State Actor<\/strong>\u201d are a sharp and cynical take on the powers behind political thrones, while Cornell\u2019s bruised and introspective \u201cBones of Birds<\/strong>\u201d explores the terrors and vulnerabilities of parenthood.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Soundgarden remain a truly \u2018alternative\u2019 band as they embark on the next chapter of their journey, steadfast in their roots with 15 years of growth behind them.\u00a0King Animal<\/em>\u00a0follows the musical evolution of one of the world\u2019s most groundbreaking bands. As\u00a0BBC<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0put it, they are \u201ca band beyond lazy labels and genre limits.\u201d This is a long awaited return for both the band and fans alike.\u00a0<\/p>\n
