\"\"<\/a>In summary: \u2018This album is like someone has finally turned on the blender and made a Pantera, Mudvayne, Damage Plan and Nothingface cocktail, and called it a Hellyeah. This album kicks ass.\u2019<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been two years since Hellyeah\u2019s last release, being \u2018Stampede\u2019 and now they\u2019re back, this time they\u2019ve taken a turn, and by turn I mean the volume knobs have been turned up and they have made one hell of a metal record with \u2018Band of Brothers\u2019.\u00a0 From the first second of pressing play and \u2018War in Me\u2019 melting my face off, I knew I was in for a something heavy and I was well OK with that, in fact my old rock neck injury is sure to be in trouble listening to this album, but, I\u2019m ready.\u00a0 Of course when you have members of successful metal bands in the same band you\u2019ll hear shades of their past endeavours and that\u2019s completely evident here on the opening track and the album as a whole, oh and I refuse to make a \u201950 shades of (Chad) Gray\u2019 gag, too easy at the moment, but you get what I mean. \u00a0On \u2018Band of Brothers\u2019 you can hear elements of every band, in particular the driving drums of Pantera and melody, riffs and vocal traits of Mudvayne, it\u2019s like someone has finally turned on the blender and made a Pantera, Mudvayne, Damage Plan and Nothingface cocktail, and called it a Hellyeah, and hell yeah it works.\u00a0 Sure they have made two albums previously, but this one actually sounds like the record they wanted to make. This is absolute rockin\u2019 metal.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m only three songs in, and title track \u2018Band of Brothers\u2019 is not only a great choice for the album name and first single, but musically and lyrically I dig it, I actually believe they believe what they\u2019re singing and it\u2019s what makes Hellyeah an actual band of brothers.\u00a0 This is a great track and a favourite for me on the album. \u2018Rage \/ Burn\u2019 is an absolute killer, \u2018Drink Drank Drunk\u2019 is about as close as you\u2019ll get to material from Hellyeah\u2019s first two albums for that, I don\u2019t know, party element?\u00a0 Regardless, it\u2019s heavy, although not my favourite on the album as there is too much of everything else to love. They break it down big time with \u2018Between You and Nowhere\u2019 in an acoustic driven track, hell, let\u2019s call it the ballad on the album, and it\u2019s damn good, I had no idea they could do this sort of thing ha ha. Back rockin\u2019 with \u2018Call It Like I See It\u2019 taking on a mix of clean vocals with Chad\u2019s growl is a great track melodically as does \u2018Why Does It Always\u2019 including some harmony guitars in there, always a winner.\u00a0 Taking on the topic of the West Memphis Three, is \u2018WM Free\u2019which is close to the most brutal on the album both musically and lyrically and a topic that has been written \/ sang about a lot over the years.\u00a0 Kudos to Hellyeah for adding to the awareness of a story that a lot of people still may not be aware of.<\/p>\n

Riff wise, I love the sound of \u2018Dig Myself A Hole\u2019 it\u2019s very reminiscent of their previous bands but with a new spin, and chorus wise I like this, it\u2019s catchy and a great way to round out the record along with \u2018What It Takes To Be Me\u2019 where they reassure us that \u201cTheir home\u2019s on the road\u2019 along with Vinnie Paul sounding like he\u2019s out on a run using his drum pedals as sneakers and is truly a good ending, that\u2019s unless you get bonus track and where my main intrigue lies with a song called \u2018High and Dry\u2019 yes THAT \u2018High and Dry\u2019, a Def Leppard cover on a metal album. \u00a0I can\u2019t say I\u2019ve ever heard a Def Lep track given this treatment but it\u2019s done well, it almost sounds like it was written to be played this way and I commend Hellyeah for doing it, even if Chad really wasn\u2019t too keen on the idea (read about that here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

So, honestly, I can\u2019t even compare their last two records to this one, it\u2019s different, it\u2019s a fuckin\u2019 metal!\u00a0 I need to hear this played live in its entirety right now.\u00a0 If Hellyeah can keep making albums like this then expect them to be around for quite some time.<\/p>\n
