The Killers<\/strong> will release their 4th<\/sup> studio album, entitled Battle Born<\/em><\/strong> on September 14th<\/sup>, 2012<\/strong>! \u00a0Created over the last year and a half, Battle Born<\/em><\/strong> is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2008\u2019s hit-spawning album Day & Age<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Epic first single \u201cRunaways\u201d <\/strong>premieres today and will be released to all digital service providers on July 17th<\/sup><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Battle Born,<\/em><\/strong> named after the words emblazoned on the Nevada state flag, in addition to sharing its name with the band\u2019s recording studio, is everything Killers fans have waited for since the band announced they would be taking a short hiatus at the start of 2010.\u00a0 The Vegas-based 4-piece \u2013 Brandon Flowers<\/strong> (vocals\/keyboards), Dave Keuning<\/strong> (guitars), Mark Stoermer<\/strong> (bass), and Ronnie Vannucci<\/strong> (drums) \u2013 had toured for eighteen months straight in support of Day & Age<\/em>, from playing their own shows in some of the world\u2019s most prestigious venues \u2013 Royal Albert Hall, Madison Square Garden \u2013 to headlining massive festivals in every corner of the globe.\u00a0 By the time this run ended, the band had sold over 15 million copies worldwide of their previous albums, Hot Fuss, Sam\u2019s Town<\/em>, and Day & Age<\/em>, and had become one of the world\u2019s biggest rock \u2018n\u2019 roll bands in the process.\u00a0 Yet, they found themselves at a crossroads:\u00a0 nearly seven consecutive years of recording, releasing an album, and touring had left them ready to take time off.\u00a0 In the ensuing hiatus, three of four Killers released solo albums to critical accolades, each showing their own musical roots through the directions their albums took.\u00a0 Then, in 2011, the band made their first live appearance in over a year, headlining the inaugural Lollapalooza festival in Chile.\u00a0 The magic was undeniable; what The Killers did best, they did best together.\u00a0 Days later, they found themselves back in their studio \u2013 Battle Born \u2013 once more.<\/p>\n

The songs came out quickly, starting with the album\u2019s rousing lead single \u201cRunaways,\u201d <\/strong>followed by the record\u2019s heart-string-tugging emotional gravity-center \u201cHere With Me,\u201d<\/strong> and the stadia-quaking electro-rock of \u201cFlesh & Bone.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0 By the time the band had satisfactorily refined the body of songs, they put together a dream team of producers, recording in fits and starts to work with as many as possible, trying new things with each.\u00a0 The list of those involved was a who\u2019s who of the production world, including Daniel Lanois, Steve Lillywhite, Damian Taylor, Stuart Price<\/strong> and Brendan O\u2019Brien<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The process of working with so many of music\u2019s finest sound sculptors proved one that benefited The Killers in the end, giving them a keener understanding of their own sound.\u00a0 The resulting album is The Killers at their greatest.\u00a0 Battle Born<\/em><\/strong> incorporates elements of each of the records that came before it \u2013 Hot Fuss\u2019<\/em> storytelling eye for detail, the yearning, mythic American rock \u2018n\u2019 roll of Sam\u2019s Town<\/em>, the anthemic choruses and pop nous of Day & Age<\/em>, while still sounding like an entirely new path for the band.\u00a0 It\u2019s an album written with the live audience in mind. The guitars are heavier, the drums more powerful, the vocals more commanding \u2013 all sounding quintessentially Killers while sounding bigger and better than ever before.\u00a0 It is an album that, like its namesake and the band that created it, does not back down from its own strengths.<\/p>\n
