\"\"<\/a>Tonight I\u2019m once again at the Sydney Opera House, an iconic venue I’ve been lucky enough to attend a number of concerts now, and every time the artists are more than ‘blown away’ (pun intended) by being able to have the opportunity to do play here. None more than tonight’s performer the gorgeous and extremely talented Carrie Underwood.<\/p>\n

With artists the likes of Keith Urban and Taylor Swift taking this \u2018new\u2019 country pop \/ rock style genre to heights and selling out arenas all over Australia and the world, the country music of old is still there but it\u2019s a thing of the past and saved for the veterans of that industry.\u00a0 This new modern updated country sound is more main stream than anything and if people could just realise that this \u2018C\u2019 word is not a dirty one and there is some amazing music around, and Carrie Underwood is definitely a part of this new breed.\u00a0 Here is a complete package, she has the look, her voice is pristine, her eight piece touring band is so tight, and the songs are completely relatable.\u00a0 I knew tonight was going to be great as while heading to my seat Bon Jovi\u2019s \u2018Livin\u2019 On A Prayer\u2019 is being blasted throughout the room, good start\u2026<\/p>\n

Taking the stage to the sold out Opera House, the band launches in to her newest single \u2018Good Girl\u2019 and it didn\u2019t really slow down from there.\u00a0 Hearing this song which is in my opinion already rocked up, well, hearing it with three guitars in a live environment, let\u2019s just say this one rocked and hard.\u00a0 Thank you for also bringing back a guitar solo, they are missed!\u00a0 The set tonight comprised of a cross section of all of her four albums, obviously focusing on her newest release \u2018Blown Away\u2019 which the crowd were completely in to, once again showing this genre is picking up speed and that\u2019s a good thing. The biggest reactions came from the likes of \u2018Wasted\u2019 which kicked off her debut album and one of my personal favourites, \u2018Last Name\u2019 was amazing, I\u2019ve never seen lighting take over the Opera House like that, it was a spectacle, and gave the song a real kick.\u00a0 Along with the lighting there were smoke machines that gave us that eerie feeling through her big ballad \u2018Just A Dream\u2019.\u00a0 Her voice just shines through; it\u2019s a treat to listen to.<\/p>\n

Her cover of Randy Travis\u2019 \u2018I Told You So\u2019 was prefaced with a story of how she would listen to her sisters\u2019 albums and that\u2019s what gave her the drive to become what she is now, thanks Randy.\u00a0 She delivers this song like it was the last one she\u2019d ever sing.\u00a0 Sure that leans back to the traditional country side a little, but I dug it.\u00a0 The crowd were on their feet for \u2018Cowboy Casanova\u2019 while we were then able to sit and take in a great acoustic section of the set.\u00a0 Crowd participation was in full swing with a great clap along for \u2018Nobody Ever Told You\u2019 and a few more, but then wasting no time, it was time to \u2018Undo It\u2019 which brought the energy back up.\u00a0 Then the customary story about Australia and our amazing music scene and tonight an interesting tribute in the form of a cover of the INXS classic \u2018Never Tear Us Apart\u2019 which was very well done, countrified a little substituting a slide guitar in place of the saxophone solo, it worked.\u00a0 Of course the crowd loved it, how could you not.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody has that one song that they\u2019ll have to sing for the rest of their lives, and this is mine\u201d as her first hit \u2018Jesus Take The Wheel\u2019 began, I always liked this song, but tonight in a live environment and when she absolutely belted out \u2018How Great Thou Art’ mid song, now, I\u2019m not a religious man, but Hallelujah\u2026 I actually got goose bumps.\u00a0 That\u2019s a rare thing.\u00a0 I hope she keeps singing this song forever.\u00a0 It was getting close to the end of the night and you could see people waiting for a song, it came, and \u2018Before He Cheats\u2019 was special for a couple of reasons.\u00a0 The crowd pretty much sang every word of the song back to Carrie and the smile on her face was something to see.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think she ever expected this kind of reaction and she was herself \u2018Blown Away\u2019 see, it just works for so many occasions\u2026<\/p>\n

Encore.\u00a0 Now, I\u2019m a big softy at heart, and when she started the song that I\u2019d been waiting for all night, \u2018I Know You Won\u2019t\u2019 I was a happy camper.\u00a0 This is one of her massive ballads, on the albums it has power, but live with a band, wow, I could\u2019ve left at that point, but no\u2026 one to go.\u00a0 Of course we are left with the album\u2019s namesake and the pun I\u2019ve been using throughout this review \u2018Blown Away\u2019 which was a perfect end to a perfect night of live music.\u00a0 I haven\u2019t heard many sing better than Carrie Underwood and regardless of how she got her start or regardless of what you think of these reality shows (she won American Idol remember). This girl has talent and I’m so glad I got to witness that tonight. Wow.\u00a0If you\u2019re scrunching up your nose about this, maybe open your mind a little and check out this modern country vibe, you may be surprised what you find.<\/p>\n
