DEAD IN A SECOND announce new single ‘Girls In Town’ as a tribute to Chrissy Amphlett

by

Sydney rock band Dead In A Second has recorded a version of the classic Divinyls track Boys In Town; retitled Girls In Town as a tribute to Australian rock’s most formidable role model, Chrissy Amphlett. Dead In A Second guitarist / producer Tristan ‘Trizo’ Bouillaut was in the studio in April midway through recording their follow up EP to last years Maretimo when the news came through of Chrissy’s death.

It hit Bouillaut hard. It was seeing The Divinyls on TV in the early 80’s that inspired him, especially the way Chrissy captured the screen and seemed so complementary to the skilful guitar playing of Mark McEntee that saw the rock and roll bug bite at such a young age.

As a result of that TV appearance, Bouillaut taught himself how to play guitar and soon made a name for himself in several bands including Kill The Capitol and Thousand Needles In Red. The latter earned him a Top 10 album and single in the AIR and iTunes charts. Dead In A Second, which he formed in 2012, made an immediate impact with their debut EP Maretimo debuting at #3 on the Australian iTunes Rock Charts in June 2012.

As soon as he heard of Chrissy’s passing, Bouillaut immediately put the sessions on hold to concentrate on recording a tribute for Chrissy. From the outset, the song he wanted to cover was Boys In Town and renamed the song Girls In Town with a few other minor lyric changes.

Before the recording could proceed, a lengthy process began to get the required permission from The Divinyls and their publishing company EMI Music Publishing Australia. The band was given the green light to proceed in July and immediately got to work to finish the recording.

“I felt that I could do more than just buy a pen or put some loose change into a bucket at the shopping centre. My family as well as millions of others out there have suffered greatly. I felt personally, this is the least I can do to help. I feel honoured to be able to tribute Chrissy! After all she gave her incredible music to the world for many years. This is my thank you to her” – Tristan ‘Trizo’ Bouillaut.

All proceeds from the sale of Girls In Town will be donated to MS and breast cancer research. Girls In Town will impact radio Monday 2nd September and will be available on iTunes Friday 30th August.

Our heartfelt thanks and much respect to The Divinyls and Chrissy’s loved ones.
