1927 and The Rembrandts announce East Coast shows

by

Sydney, Australia – Thursday, 7 June, 2012:  It’s been 22 years since 1927 burst onto the scene with their debut album, …ISH, selling half a million copies in Australia and producing  the hit singles That’s When I Think Of You, If I Could, You’ll Never Know and Compulsory Hero.  … ISH remains one of the highest selling debut albums ever by an Australian band to this day.

Now the story continues with the release of their new album Generation-i (scheduled for release in July) and four shows along Australia’s East Coast with special guests, The Rembrandts.

1927 fans have recently reacquainted themselves with the band having been special guests on the Roxette national tour earlier this year, playing to over 100,000 people with rave reviews.  The new album has been three years in the making and is well worth the wait.

The new album, Generation-I,  is beautifully crafted and once again showcases the songwriting talents of lead singer, Erik Weideman, and the band with a thoughtful and mature selection of new songs that fans old and new will love.

Erik Weideman said today: “I’m really looking forward to this tour – the band is really firing after the Roxette shows.  We’ll be playing all our hits and some of the tracks from the new record which I’m pretty sure our fans will fall in love with as much as we have”.

The Rembrandts formed in 1990 when Danny Wilde and Phil Solem teamed up to record some demos in Wilde’s Southern California garage/studio including their first smash hit, Just The Way It Is, Baby. Two years later, and two albums in, The Rembrandts had gained popularity not only for their hit songs, but for their signature harmonies and catchy hooks that filled their albums from start to finish.

By 1995, the band had completed a third album but before its release, the duo agreed to record the theme song to a forthcoming television series. The band asked to do it anonymously, but when Friends became a worldwide hit, I’ll Be There For You went along for the ride and was a No. 1 hit all over the world and The Rembrandts (along with Monica, Joey, Chandler, Ross, Phoebe and Rachel) became household names.

In the intervening years, The Rembrandts broke up, reunited, released four more albums and continued to write new songs and tour, while also working on material and producing for other artists, including Plain White T’s and Gin Blossoms.

Now it’s time for 1927 and The Rembrandts to perform their full set of classics plus some new material for their legions of fans and tickets are expected to sell fast!
